engaged couple removed from united

I'd post sources but every time I post a link it's people saying "oh that source is biased" or "that source is #fakenews" or whatever. So just google "engaged couple removed from united" and you'll find several bits from which to pick and choose.

Some sources say law enforcement was there. Some say there wasn't.

Dumb news though because this would not even remotely make a headline if it wasn't for the recent Dao issue

But idk maybe bringing every case to light will help highlight how awful their customer service is

An engaged couple were kicked off a United Airlines flight to Costa Rica following a row over them sitting in the wrong seats.

But following an argument with cabin crew they were removed by a federal law enforcement officer from the flight.

United said the couple repeatedly tried to sit in more expensive seats for which they had not paid and would not follow flight crew instructions.

Mr Hohl said the pair found another passenger sleeping sprawled across their seats after they were the last to board the flight.

Soon after moving to other, empty seats in the economy cabin a few rows up, flight crew denied their request to pay a supplement for the seats, which United sells as "economy plus", and told them to move back to their original seats.

"We thought not a big deal, it's not like we are trying to jump up into a first-class seat," Hohl told KHOU.

"We were simply in an economy row a few rows above our economy seat."

There, did the hard work for you.

Yeah, United is terrible alright. How dare they.

The only people that scream "fake news" is the alt right, like Zeus, so you don't need to take anything they say seriously.

Refusing to post sources when something happens makes you look bad and makes people less likely to take you seriously.

Yes yes I read your little whiny diatribe about using that an excuse for incredibly lazy and biased news.

Next.

I'm lazier for being risk-averse than you are for simply literally copying and pasting the quoted text I wrote out for this exact situation? Or are you just purposely trolling? Either way, here, let me make your life easier: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=engaged+couple+removed+from+united

On-topic: Yeah they should have alerted flight crew about the guy sleeping on their seats. I have no idea how something like this could have escalated to the point where they had to get removed from the flight.

Like, I'm picturing it like this - The couple is sitting in the economy plus seats. Flight attendants come over and say "you're in the wrong seats." So the first thing the couple should say is "but there's a guy asleep in our row." So, next step, why doesn't the flight attendant go move the sleeping guy into his own seat?

It makes no sense

I actually believe United's story more than the couple in this case. I think they were probably hoping to play off United's bad publicity and force their way into better seats.

Yeah I'd definitely believe that. Common logic says they would explain to the flight attendants that their seats were occupied, then the flight attendant would go wake up said passenger (since it isn't necessarily the couple's responsibility), then all would be right with the world.

This story is fishy. Granted, the airlines could show some damn leniency and say like yeah bro nobody's in these seats so go for it. This hardly called for disembarking any passengers (except maybe the sleeping guy if he was refusing to move or something, but it sounds like the guy was blissfully asleep the entire time and had no idea anything happened).

i don't get why you would think you can just move to whatever seat you want

even if they are open

you have an assigned seat on a flight. you aren't supposed to just go sit where ever you want

This isn't a fake story, I heard the radio mention it this morning as well.

That said, I think there's more to the story. You don't just remove someone from a flight simply for sitting in the wrong seat.

I feel like they were told to move back, they objected because someone was sleeping across their seats, then refused to move back if the guy who was occupying their seats was asked to not do that. That last part is where they had to be removed.

Possibly fair, next.

See that's where it loses me. Like why didn't the flight attendants get him to wake up?

And also, side note - who sprawls across THREE seats!? Like I understand spilling over to one, but taking up two seats? You'd have to lie down completely (and somehow still be in a seat belt?)

According to this NPR article, https://goo.gl/aHe42y, they supposedly complied with the flight attendant but was later removed.

"After sitting, Hohl said a flight attendant approached and asked if they were in their ticketed seats. The couple explained they weren't and asked if they could get an upgrade, but instead they were told they needed to return to their assigned seats.

"Hohl said after complying with the flight attendant's demand, a U.S. marshal came onto the plane and asked them to get off.

"The couple cooperated and got off the plane without incident, but they still don't understand why."

Too much of this was from Hohl's point of view so I'm not 100% convince the story adds up correctly. Why would they be removed after complying with the flight attendant?

According to a statement from United, they did not comply with the flight attendant.

"These passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seating which they did not purchase and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats."

I was baffled by this as well. The couples were last to board so maybe that passenger assumed the seats were empty and decided to take all of them. That would still be odd though as he would have to wake up anyway for the take-off as I believe the airliner want passengers properly seated and buckled during take-off and landing.

Some airlines are more lenient with this. I frequently fly on a route where there are less-than-full flights and the flight attendants give everyone a chance to move seats if they like at the start of the flight (sometimes they actually ask people to move around due to weight distribution issues). It all depends on who you're flying with.

Funny enough my troop and I flew back from Hawaii in 2015 via United Airlines. It was a late night July 4th flight and only half the plane was filled. Even before we took off we were allowed to sit wherever after the door was closed.

Oh yes, definitely. In our case the flight attendant told us we may move wherever without us asking. It was a Godsend for me as my back was burnt so leaning against the chair was hellish for me.

yeah honestly a lot of people who are like on their way to their wedding or planning their wedding think that they should get special treatment just for doing what billions of people do.

it's the same thing a lot of people with kids do. sorry you have a kid but that doesn't give you special privileges.
