Franklin's BBQ in Austin Texas. Bon Apetit named it the one of the 20 most important restaurants in America

this is the line every day:

They open at 11 am and close at 2 (because every day that's when they run out of food). You have to be in line before 9 am if you want to be guaranteed to have the brisket and ribs, which are their most popular stuff. Those run out fast. Any time after that, they might have only turkey and sausage left.

the guy who runs it looks like the dude from Flight of the Concords:

No. I don't think it's worth. I'd rather go elsewhere or make it myself. I love food, but no matter how good it is, I'm not waiting in line for that long for it.

The way I see it, if I'm going to spend that much time in line, by the time I get the food, I better have a great experience eating it. However, most places where you have to wait that long to get food are generally crowded as fuck and uncomfortable to sit and eat.

Hell no. And I wouldn't be surprised if they purposely get only so much food so they can run out quick and keep the demand and exclusivity up.

I drive by that line a few times a week for work but I don't know anybody who's ever been there. Seems more like a tourist attraction to me. I'm sure Franklin's is delicious but there's plenty of good barbecue in Austin.

Their branded barbecue sauce is really fucking good though.

No. Literally a meme restaurant. Probably not much better than the hundreds of other BBQ restaurants in the area. but this one gained notoriety on the net or no Food Network so ITS THE BEST GOTTA WAIT IN LINE....I credit them for marketing right, but i can't see what make their food that much better.

you think it's unrealistic that they legitimately run out of food?

how many people do you think are in a 2+ hour line

uh, no shit you can't, cause you'd actually have had to have eaten there

but in typical ceman fashion you're gonna talk super confidently about something you've never experienced, so, idk, you do you and have at it, i guess

1. No
2. There should be call-ahead service
3. They should literally be open 24/7 if they are that popular.

for real if they are THAT popular why turn money away by not ordering more food? if they can make MORE money due to their popularity based on how good their food is, why not order more and collect more money?

Micklethwait's trailer is in walking distance from Franklin's and they have also been on Food Network for their award-winning beef ribs. Been meaning to check that out too but haven't made it.

Nope, preordered a month in advance, got 5 friends to go with me and got some Franklin goodness without having to wait.

Brisket is the best I've ever had, although everything else isn't amazing and their sauce is pretty bland. Also they don't have beef ribs everyday so I didn't get to try that.

Unless you just really have to brisket, I'd recommend Black's in lockhart or La bbq nearby. No wait and you get amazing food, which in some ways is better than franklin.

uh, idk, that maybe it just tastes that good?

it's pretty obvious

but there's nothing more i can say about it that's gonna change your mind considering that you already don't trust that people are lining up daily for this stuff for anything other than hype/marketing

how simple-minded are you guys?

you think restaurants have an infinite amount of storage space or something?

if you guys know anything about good food, it's that it's always fresh-made

and if it's fresh-made, then time is obviously a factor too

if they order more than they can cook to their standards (of which i'm assuming are high, considering that they command 2+ hour lines daily), then they're compromising both their integrity and reputation

it's why a chain like in-n-out hasn't expanded despite their gross popularity, for example - they'd be farther away from their sources of beef, which would lead to longer times in transport, which in turn would compromise the quality of their burgers (you know, that thing that makes them popular to begin with?)

as hard as it might be for needlessly cynical and/or naive cemen to believe, not everything is about money
