People can make jokes about public figures all they want. If they didn't want to be made fun of they shouldn't have became a public figure.

No it wasn't wrong, it was worse: it wasn't funny. It was just name calling with nothing clever about it. The Report Colbert would have done better.

Oh wow, my thoughts exactly. Kudos.

It absolutely is. If you feel personality offended because Stephen Colbert made an off-color joke about a public figure who made his name in politics by being abrasive, that's your problem.

It's not. I'm not offended by him essentially calling Trump a cocksucker on TV but it does reflect poorly on him.

No this is the very definition of thin skinned especially considering how so many of his supporters always talk about how comedians shouldn't be restricted to jokes that don't offend people.

I completely agree that comedians should be allowed to joke about whatever they want too. This situation has really brought out the hypocrisy in some people

If Obama acted like Trump I'd have no problem with it...But Obama carried himself in a respectful manner and even if you didn't agree with his politics nothing like this would have been warranted...Enough of the "IF THIS WAS OBAMA" nonsense...Trump brought this on himself. That is how he treats others. That is the perception of himself he puts out there...so don't cry when people flip it back on him. Its his own damn fault. I'm sure Stephen didn't like George W's politics but he wouldn't go at him like that, because even Bush carried himself as a man in a respectful manner...yes it was fun to make fun of his seemingly childlike demeanor and criticize what his team did...but that's nothing compared to this. Trump acts like an idiot, a child, a baby....just in that video you see a clip of him throwing a tantrum and sitting down looking at papers because he didn't like a simple question....this man (and i use that word loosely) has done NOTHING to make ANYONE respect him as a Man. That is how own fault.. Not Colbert's, not Baldwin's....its HIS fault.

No, but I think the double standard around what you can get away with against conservatives versus liberals is pathetic. I don't think there would be an issue with any of this if the same standard was set the previous 8 years.

No celebrity with even the lowest d-level career would have dared go on a hateful and offensive rant about Obama. Hell, remember when that country singer who did the NFL theme song went on Fox and made a joke comparing Obama golfing with some Repub to Hitler meeting with Netanyahu? And the NFL canned him due to the outrage. That's how protected and coddled Obama was. There was absolutely no room to attack him, comically or otherwise, without facing repercussions.

We're a long way from those days. Chris Matthews compared Trump to Hitler on the day of his inauguration without a peep from anyone. You have people saying the most disgusting and offensive things about the president and anyone connected to him, but nobody cares. They actually encourage/applaud it.

Pot, kettle.

Also remember Colbert's moment of clarity on Election Night? "H-how did we get so toxic?" He's a joke and it was unprofessional. A desperate attempt to salvage some sagging ratings. Maybe he'll trot out the actual talent in Jon Stewart more often to plug those holes.

what double standard? like I said if Obama acted like Trump did I'd have no problem at all with it...Likewise, if Trump conducted himself with dignity and acted respectable I'd probably feel like Stephen took it too far. There is no double standard...the only similarity is both those men held the same office. they were both (one still is) President...That's IT....you can't compare the two. You can't compare how they are treated. Trump is being treated like he treats everyone else. He's being treated based on how he acts....That's all there is to it.

First, this rediculous attitude that, "hes the president so he automatically gets respect" is absurd. This is America, not North Korea or Russia. Being the president doesnt mean you should automatically get respect. Its earned, not given. Just because Trump is president, doesnt mean people should respect the deplorable, man-baby antics he pulls left and right.
Second, Trump is bringing this on himself. Bush and Obama did not act like Trump regardless if you liked their politics or not.

How to be a CE conservative:

Claim everybody who isn't right-wing is an easily offended snowflake who needs coddling.

When a right wing person is insulted, have a total meltdown and accuse them of having no respect while crying to the authorities that you need protection from their words.

Fail to see the hypocrisy in this because self-reflection is a mystery to them.
