i think its unfair to solely blame the employer when the employees are just as if not more guilty.

you think these workers want to work for a set min wage? they sign up for these tip jobs cos they KNOW they can scam people due to a stupid custom.

min wage++ with minimal skills

TC makes a good point and I have asked this question as well.

If two people to the same store. One gets a patio steak and the other gets a Filet Mignon. Why should the person who got the Filet pay more for the same service. It just doesn't add up.

NOTE this does not mean that I don't tip. I do tip well just asking the question.

It makes sense if front of house splits their tips with back of house. Kitchen prepares a more complex meal or time-consuming meal, like a steak, they get more tips as a result.

If front of house keeps the tips for themselves, then it's just straight up greed.
