43 y/o Mother, Joanne Mogavero won $100,000 from Starbucks because they spilled COFFEE on her!!

The jury awarded her the massive payout after she suffered first and second degree burns after the lid of her coffee cup popped off sending the hot coffee onto her lap

She was at a Starbucks at a drive-thru in July 2014 when she ordered the Venti Pike's Place coffee..

As she passed the coffee to the passenger's seat, the lid suddenly popped off sending the 190 degree beverage all over her!!

She suffered permanent scarring as a result.

The jury awarded 15,000 for her medical bills and an additional 85,000 smackers for her pain and suffering

Her attorney argued Starbucks should warn its customers that the lids can pop off as a starbucks rep said the coffee company receives 80 complaints a month about the issues with lids popping of for leaking..

Steve Earle, her lawyer said "My client didn't want sympathy from the jury, she wanted justice, and the jury gave it to her with its verdict"

Hopefully she doesn't get drug through the mud like the McDonald's coffee gal in the 90's who had gnarly 3rd degree burns and people acted like it was some frivolous lawsuit.

Yeah people are downright viscous about that.

Back in high school we had a debate about that incident and we each had to pick a side and argue about it. I was the only person who sided with her so I had to debate the entire class. I got an A but everyone hated me for like a day

What was especially sad is she just wanted her medical bills taken care of. McDonald's acted like such douches about it that the jury awarded her a huge settlement to stick it to them, and then SHE was treated like some greedy sue happy chick, and "what's wrong with America today". There's a really good documentary called "Hot Coffee" that goes into her case, and tort reform in general and how politicians keep bending these cases as examples of people being greedy, and since most people never look into the incidents in question, they just take it at face value.
