I still ran XP on a spare standalone PC (not connected to the Internet) until a year ago. It was good enough to serve those limited purposes. I stopped using it because the PC finally broke and was too old to be worth rescuing -- not because I was terrified that using XP might make me look sad.

It is especially common in business too, because the cost to migrate is a lot higher than it is for individual users. When my company moved from XP to Win 7 it took a couple years to even get to the point where we could start rolling out installs because we had so many programs to certify. Now we are starting to get ready to move to Windows 10.
