It's a niche product. The early adopters were pretty much the only people that wanted VR and could afford it. That was enough to make VR development viable, but not on a massive scale.

The Oculus and Vive are absolute jokes in sales, the PSVR is actually doing alright. Oculus and Valve had to see that coming with the $2000 price tag. Might as well buy a boat. I think it would have done better if they didn't set a freaking $2000 price tag, that decision was absolutely asinine. They did not have to do that, Sony didn't do that and they're doing the best.

It will never die. It may go into hiding for a while, but do you think people will pass up augmented reality glasses and contacts in 10 years? These face warts are fun right now, but eventually they'll be part of us.
