I'm wanting to grow my hair out a little bit/do something different with it, but I'm clueless when it comes to hair styles and what looks good, which is why I usually keep it short.

The couple of times I have tried to grow it out a bit it looks like shit to me cause my hair tends to curl on the sides and a bit in the back, but not enough to where it looks good.

I know nothing of hairstyles, or how to maintain them. Don't know if it's better to not use any hair products, or to just use gel, or what.

Guide me CE.

My hair curls too, it sucks my dude. I keep mine short for the most part, I've noticed it doesn't start to look overly messy until the sides of my head get too long. Growing it out has never worked for me because it just poofs out and since I don't use a hair straightener, product just seals the curls. I don't know how bad your curls are but you can reduce them somewhat(not very much) by using a good daily conditioner, the idea is that it weighs it down. If you're going to grow it out and if your hair is like mine, keep the sides, back and bangs cleaned up before the curls start to avoid a constant messy look. The alternative to growing it out and fighting the curls is to use a hair straightener daily, it's a pain but it will take care of the curl problem as long as you stick with it. Try to find hair diagrams to match with your face type to see what fits with your particular look. This way you have an idea of what you're aiming for. Good luck.

Thanks man. I actually did start using a better conditioner, and it helped a bit, but now one side curls more than the other and it looks kinda silly. >_>

I don't really wanna go to the effort of straightening my hair.

I will probably keep growing out, I haven't gone further than mid-length before, so I'm kinda curious how it'll look long, maybe the curls will either work themselves out or end up looking good.

Don't really know where to look for hair diagrams though.

Ok, if you're going to grow your hair out there's a few things you need to do:

1. Wash it often enough.
2. Treat it with sea salt spray after showering.
3. Possibly colour it. Possibly.
4. Blow dry it every day.

Do this and you will have gorgeous model hair. Don't do this and you will have greasy band guy hair.

Salt dries out your hair a little but sort of holds it together, so it acts as a natural hair product that looks really great. It will make your hair look full and textured.

It's a good option if you have longer hair because it gives you that effortless look and it is pretty effortless.

You don't even need to buy it. Literally just mix some salt with hot water and maybe a bit of coconut oil or something in a spray bottle.

It's a little longer now, but obviously not by a ton. The main difference is it's starting to curl more now, I can post another pic sometime tomorrow probably if needed.

Honestly, probably.

But I wanna give it a go. I had my head shaved against my will most of my life by my parents, and then in high school I had to keep it short cause I was in JROTC.

I've kept it short/ shortish mid-length so far through college, but I wanna give growing it out a go.
