So in our network closets at this new HQ, we've got lots of ethernet cables going between patch panel ports and switchports. One of the guys that is helping us set up security cameras had a certain test port I configured for him so he could see all of the cameras from his laptop.

Some time last week, the VP of IT operations had some new ports added to his office, so we had to take that test port the security camera guy was using and patch it in for the VP's office.

The security camera guy hasn't said anything to me all week about any issues he was having. I happened to be in the network closet at the same time as him.

Him: It's weird. I used to be able to see all of the cameras when I plug my laptop in. Now I can't see anything.
Me: Huh... I'll check it out in a few minutes.

*Goes around to look*

He f***ing unplugged one of the patch cables that goes to the VP's office. ASKDFJL;ASFDJA;LSFJDKA;SLFJASFDJ

This was a story about a phone call that someone else in the office took earlier this week.

"The APC unit in the cloest was beeping so we turned it off and now we don't have internet."

I had something similar happen, Comcast was in the building working on someone else's connection and for some damn reason, without telling anyone in our office, they unplugged a cable from us, we lost our phones and internet and had to use a cellphone to contact Comcast wtf was going on, and they didn't know until after the idiots plugged back in our cable.

Well, he needs access to the closet to patch in security cameras and stuff... If he does that again, I may revoke his access. Problem with that is I don't have time to babysit him to make sure he doesn't do that shit again.

our building security guy that monitors the cameras and shit could access the closet if he wanted to, but he's not allowed to unless it's an actual building security issue (like god forbid there was a fucking leak in the roof in the closet or something).
