$72 weekly for 6 meals?

https://www.xmremeals.com/xmre-1000xt

$106 for 12 meals.

Doesn't require buying an oven

You can thank me later

Actually curious about this >_>.

I bought their 1300 calorie version w/heaters which is a bit more expensive, but they've been pretty good.

The thing I like the most about them is you can just leave them out in the pantry or something they require no refrigeration, and they come with flameless heaters so all you need to warm up the main course is water. That's it. Just water. No need for a pot or anything it boils itself. After a while the chemicals wear out and it stops boiling so you can basically just start heating it up, forget about it for a few minutes, come back, and your food is nice and warm.

Lots of side dishes as well. various crackers, dried fruit, peanut butter, cookies, etc.

I love how you all cant get over the fact it is $12 per meal. It is called paying for convenience. Sorry to break it to you, but not everyone is poor.

Not everyone is a lazy idiot incapable of browning some meat and cooking some veggies either.

This is literally a less convenient TV dinner with its own oven and like 4 times the cost.

Slightly less convenient but far healthier. Seriously this is aimed at people who have money, don't want to/can't cook, and want to eat healthy.

It can be done. Food's probably bad for you though. I mean you can get something to fill you up at a place like Chipotle for under $10. But that's not exactly good for you either.

Hello fresh sends me three gourmet meals a week to my door for two people. At $10 a meal it's a no brainer.

Mix in a night our here or there and some simple meals it just makes life a lot easier.

oh. that's strange. my routine looks something like this.

thaw food from freezer
put in oven for 20 minutes
serve on paper plate
eat food
dump oil
dry pan
throw away plate

or sometimes I like to make pasta, in which case it looks like this.

boil pasta
strain
put in pot
mix with sauce from store
serve in bowl
rinse pot and bowl
put both back into cupboard

now granted, making the sauce from fresh tomatoes does take long enough that I usually don't bother with it.

The whole thing takes about 30 minutes.

Completely bypassing shopping all together.

Also produce don't last honey so unless your diet consists of 100% non produce you're going to the store every 4-5 days.

Also I can cook short meals too, this is why I love grilling it's quick, healthy and easy clean-up. But let's be realistic cooking and baking more often than not takes more than 20 minutes from beginning to end.

And paper plates are for children or college students. Why on earth would I use a paper plate on a gourmet meal?

I leave the house every day to go to work and once every two weeks I also stop to gas up the car. Generally speaking, on some of those days, I get groceries on the way back from home.

Predominantly I've been buying a lot of dry beans (I soak them overnight) and large bags of rice which stay for a really long time, last a really long time, and don't much to cook.

For the beans, after soaking, I will put them in a crock pot and let them cook while I'm at work as they require no real oversight. Rice can just be boiled on the spot for about 20 minutes and it's super easy to clean up.

I've got bags of dry beans and lentils that just sit there for weeks and are generally still good and cheap.

I'm not going to land a job at a 5 star hotel anytime soon, but it tastes good enough for me and saves money.

And there is nothing wrong with paper plates. I use them all the time unless it's something I have to cut like a steak.

I feel like I need to discuss my food budget a bit more.

1. I get free bananas, oranges, and apples at work. We're allowed to take them home on Fridays otherwise they tend to go bad over the weekend.
2. Also get free milk if I wanted it for some reason (not usually, but I do grab some sometimes for cereal)
3. I buy a great deal of generic "fill up bag" shit at my local supermarket. I pay less than $2 per pound of dry pinto beans. one cup of dry pinto beans expands to the size of a whole dinner when soaked/cooked.
4. I also get free biscuits and pretzels at work although these tend to be super dry and I only rarely eat them. Sometimes I will eat the biscuits for breakfast but they're not very good in general.
5. I eat a lot of sandwiches. A main staple of my diet is rye bread + some kind of filling, typically hummus, or some kind of pork or chicken/turkey. A loaf of bread is good for a little over a week unless I go extra on Sandwiches and costs about $4. A pound of expensive lunchmeat is about $10 and is good for approximately a week. I'll get cheese, it also costs $10 but I use much less of it and lasts for 2 weeks on average.
6. I rarely buy fresh produce, most of the vegetables I buy are frozen. Varies based on size/contents of bag, but $15 for a huge bag is not uncommon.
7. I keep an eye on various meat prices. I've seen catfish around here go down to $4 per pound and it tastes great. I check the beef and pork packages for "about to expire" shit as those are massively discounted. Also for some reason, some things are cheap as fuck for reasons I don't understand. Like I saw these pork chops that were pre-seasoned and cost like $2 less than the raw pork chops right next to them that were also smaller. I assume these are loss leaders.
8. Every two weeks (approximately) I spend about $10 on yogurt.

$50 for three weeks is solid into starvation territoriy for me unless I ate instant ramen every day, but I can easily use it to buy a lot more than 6 meals.
