Ah I see, thanks for explaining! I've been thinking of using the bumping feature for awhile but apparently according to hellhole mass bumping has become a TOU violation on CE so I was afraid that if the bumping account got hit because of it then the site would stop archiving and you'd have to go out of your way to fix it up again and I didn't want to give you trouble. However, since they're different accounts I feel safer knowing that even if a bumping account is warned or something the site will stay updated.

hrmmmm that is a bit of a worry if mass bumping is a ToU... I can imagine a topic that just has the autobumps for a long time may just harshly hit my whole line of alts... and if something happens to the usermap, that would knock the logging alt with it

mass bumping has always been a violation but it's rarely enforced. even the definition of mass bumping is pretty vague. I think the only time that it really becomes a problem is when the same topic is bumped a bunch of times without any discussion taking place?

board 8 is also pretty unique in that we try to keep single topics alive for a very long time and sometimes there are periods without much discussion. it's actually pretty typical to have random "filler" messages or even ones that just say "bump" appear every day for a while.

I think the issue would be more if the topic was being bumped every hour or something? maybe even every 15 minutes?

that being said someone on the same usermap using a program to switch between like 50 alts and bump a bunch of topics is a gray area because I think it's a pretty unique situation. who knows what the admin might do about it if they knew or cared.

Oh, the logging alt on the same IP address as the bumping ones? Yeah, that is kind of a worry. I'm not sure I want to risk that then. However, as far as I know, as long as an account doesn't actually post anything it should be safe... but I still don't want to test it, especially if your logging alt's username uses the banned word and if a mod sees it decides to ax it too.

my interpretation was that more than a bump a day (over what period I dont know) is mass bumping

but i've had topics lock on me before with a mod saying "looks like no one is interested in this topic anymore", and sometimes ive had it locked without comment (maybe from a mod, maybe from a tc, idk)
