Hallelujah!

The worst is when they're truly thin, or at least in decent shape, and they keep asking if they're fat. I imagine it's like a guy asking if his dick is big enough a lot. It's just insecurity, and you want to reassure them, but at a certain point it gets annoying, and a certain point beyond annoying, it becomes pathetic.

To be fair, it WAS the 60s, and she WAS smoking hot. Keep in mind, she did go on to have a modeling career.

But it's also implied in later stories that at least some of her bravado was all bluster anyway. Sort of like how it's canon that Peter tends to be a quippy jackass as Spider-Man because half the time he's scared shitless and is sort of trying to overcompensate (though later on, he mostly does it because he realizes it pisses off criminals and makes them easier to beat).

Early MJ stories tend to revolve around the idea that she's trying to win Peter over in the face of tons of competition (keep in mind, for all that teenage Peter is usually portrayed as a loser, he had like half a dozen girls chasing after him on a regular basis). So at least some of that bravado is her trying to portray herself as being better than Gwen (her main rival almost from the beginning).

Supposedly Stan Lee tells the story that Gwen was always supposed to be Peter's One True Love, and MJ was never meant to be anything more than a bit of a side distraction from the main love interest, but that once they started writing MJ, she wound up having so much personality that she basically sort of won out in their minds, so they decided she was the default love interest instead.

Then after he left the book his replacements felt pretty much the same way, which is part of why Gwen got thrown off a bridge.

Well, she's a model after all. She's well aware of her physical qualities.

How often do you come across a real extremely attractive person that is completely unaware of it?

Spectacular Spider-man Gwen > Mary Jane.

There were a lot of reasons why Gwen got the drop, including the fact they didn't want to move to marriage that quickly.

The humorous awkward moments were great. Then they had to ruin Ultimate Spidey by killing off Spidey so he could be replaced by a diverse hero because Marvel apparently doesn't feel capable of building a minority hero despite arguably having success with several black heroes including Blade, Storm, and Black Panther

The New MJ sucks! Also I love that line and want it in a movie. The closest to that line we've gotten in movies is Mary Jane in Spider-Man 2 saying, "Go get em Tiger!" Also I agree with Dikitain which is why I don't like MJ in the new Spider-Man movie. She acts bored through out the movie and has non of the wit and charm of MJ from the comics. Even Ultimate MJ had that wit and she was made to be almost as nerdy as Peter.

Marvel clearly knows how to handle diversity! That's why they had to marry off Storm and Black Panther in spite of them having almost nothing in common and barely interacting at any point for 20+ years, solely because they were both black.

Well, they were both considered African royalty besides that, but yeah, dodgy choice there. However, it doesn't undo the previous success with the characters.

I had an ex that would do that constantly, so finally I was like "Then go to the gym or something" she got mad and was like "You're supposed to tell me I'm not fat and hot pretty I am!" "I tried that, and you just keep asking me anyway"

I doubt it. They probably will do the more popular love interests and side characters later on.

I doubt it. They probably will do the more popular love interests and side characters later on.

The Marvel MCU films are about half-based on the Ultimate comics as-is, so they're not afraid to radically depart from what most people think of as the "official" versions of characters. And they went out of their way to deliberately turn Peter's entire early supporting cast into a multi-ethnic diversity smorgasbord, so the odds of them deliberately introducing new versions of said characters afterwards and causing modern audience confusion/inviting "whitewashing" backlash are incredibly slim ("Wait, why are there two characters named MJ? How common is that? And why is there a new Liz character in school whose brother is a supervillain? Why is there a guy named Ned Leeds now if his best friend's name is Ned Lee? I'm so confused!")

At BEST, you might get a Sam Raimi Spider-Man situation, where they introduce a character using an established name but with the personality of a different character (ie, Sam Raimi basically called Kirsten Dunst's character MJ, but her personality and history was closer to early Gwen Stacy). In other words, the MCU might introduce a character who acts like MJ and maybe sort of looks like MJ, but who they call Gwen.

Or they might just go to the deeper well and start pulling out any of the two dozen plus other women Peter has dated over the years (for a "loser", he gets laid more than most guys in the Marvel Universe). Whether someone like Felicia Hardy, Jean DeWolff, or Joy Mercado (or, if Marvel hates us, someone like Carlie Cooper), there are a lot of ways you could reinterpret those older characters and work them into interesting stories.

(And if they were REALLY ballsy - which they aren't, but one can dream - they'd introduce Anna Maria Marconi as a love interest, because "cute sassy science nerd" is a good fit for Peter, and "little person" checks at least one more box on the diversity bingo card.)

Or, more likely, since Marvel's deal with Sony only lasts for two more movies, they'll just have him date the established MJ and ignore the other options. It's distinctly possible the only reason she's "Michelle" and not "Mary Jane" in the movie is because "Mary Jane" is a way less common name in modern times, and is a euphemism for marijuana (something people have commented on over the years with Spider-Man's MJ).

Oof, if any of the Brand New Day characters make it into the MCU, I'm sure that'll raise plenty of butthurt.
