Remember when it was the right wing trying to ban things because of the glorification of violence and drug culture?

Don't forget, this isn't a left/right issue, it's a authoritarian/freedom one. Do not cut right wing extremism any slack because the left lost its mind.

I agree with you, but I don't think we are cutting right wing extremists slack. If you're referring to the Christian Right, they lost so much power it's easy to ignore them.

Also, hilarious that you bitch about censorship as you work to get others censored. Again proving my point that it is not actually about censorship, but keeping the brown man in line.

People do realize that the movie has taken shit about being racially insensitive and had controversy since it came out, right? This isn't a new thing

Lol k. I'm done here. I'm not racist. In fact I tend to like people of other races more than I like my fellow white man. I just don't like dumb crap like a theater not wanting to play a classic like gone with the wind because it's "racist". The movie is from 1939 and about the civil war. Did you really think there wouldn't be a slaves in it?

I honestly dislike both sides in this. The new wave of minorities who seem shocked by the movie's content, and the white people who had no idea the film was ever disliked for this reason. It's just a bunch of stupid people realizing what past generations have known for decades.

Movies that are in danger of being "banned" in the future;

1. Revenge of the Nerds (treats an act of rape as consensual sex)

Sounds fine to me.

But not the woman groping and lip locking a boy in Weird Science? No way would that fly today. Nicole Kidman received some hate for a similar scene she did with a 10-year-old in the early 2000s.

I will admit Gone with the Wind was a little progressive back in the day, for having a major black female character that was portrayed sympathetically. Unfortunately the situation of her slavery was also whitewhashed in that process. In order for them to get that sympathy, she had to basically all but say that she enjoyed the whole slavery thing and waiting on whitey was a real treat.

The whole movie is just a god damn mess though. It is an epic romance movie set in a very disgusting time in our country's history. It is like trying to make the story of Dachau into a romantic comedy. The theater by not showing it is only saving hundreds if not thousands of hours of all of our collective time.

I think a private business has the right to not show a movie that they don't want to show anymore. That isn't what a ban is.

And I always hated that movie. Fuck it

I'm honestly surprised that a lot of those kinds of 80s movies haven't been put on some kind of list. I've seen at least 5 films from that era about guys in college or high school where they peep on girls in the shower or hide in their closets while they get changed.

Even American Pie's webcam scene is pretty disgusting by today's standards.

That's true of many soap operas of that era too. There was a General Hospital story arch in which a man raped a woman who then fell in love with him. It was treated as "seduction" by the writers. This scene even had her clothes ripped off violently if memory serves me correctly. It wasn't ambiguous. Straight up rape. Then there's the Tom Manning story arch of "One Life to Live" where a gang rapist was redeemed and became a hero. The actor quit the show in disgust over the character's treatment.

The problem with that movie isn't that it's racist; the problem is that it paints over antebellum America as being rosy and happy for everyone involved.

...have you ever seen the movie?
