The only thing I've watched of his since like 2010 is Ted and Ted 2, which I hated. It's worth noting that his character on this show uses the exact same voice as Ted, which I assume is just Macfarlane's normal voice.

The show was billed as a satire of Star Trek and a comedy, but it's really only like 15% comedy, and the jokes themselves almost all fall flat (and are the exact same kind of jokes you find in Ted, where all humor is derived from professional people acting unprofessionally). The show is actually a mostly straight space opera about a guy captaining a ship with his ex-wife with special effects that are juuuuuuust good enough that they aren't funny by themselves and not good enough to be serious. It's really weird when the show acts seriously because Macfarlane is still acting like a comedy character (his "normal modern guy in a weird situation" persona, like he does in Ted and I know he does in that western movie) surrounded by characters clearly intended for comedy (a racist robot, a Worf rip-off, a perky superhumanly strong girl, two idiot college Chad types, etc). I can't say it fails, but it doesn't quite come together the way I think he wanted it to.

Anyone else watch it?

I didn't even know this was a thing and if I had any interest it before, reading that made me want to see it even less.

The trailer actually made it look really interesting, but I was kind of wary because it was Seth MacFarlane. He does seem like kind of a closet geek that would do something like this justice though.

It had very little comedy. It was very bizarre for Seth Macfarlane. It seemed like he wanteed to be very reverent to the Star Trek concept, but it is such a love letter that it pulls every possible punch and just feels pretty toothless.

This is a good way of putting it, yes.
