On a serious note, though, are there any examples of movies or shows not being screened for critics and turning out to be good?

The only time this ever happens to something good is if there is some big twist involved. The Force Awakens didn't screen, I think.
This happens more often with TV shows, but usually with established series and usually only for season finales or otherwise 'big' episodes. A bunch of GoT episodes didn't screen. To not do it for a pilot seems like a real bad sign --- "Mighty boobs." - Vlado ... Copied to Clipboard!
