I've seen the OVA, yeah. Unlike Crunchyroll, Funimation is good about having the OVAs.

I thought I mentioned I was going to rewatch Hyouka after I finished it.

Unsurprisingly, the reviews of Sonic Forces are underwhelming. 3-D Sonic rarely reviews that well though, but based on what I'm seeing of it, it's pretty much what I expected it to be. I'm sure I'll get it eventually and enjoy the time I put into it, but I figured it wasn't going to wind up being up there with Colors and Generations.

I have a kind of unique perspective on Ragnarok i think, since I only really started watching ALL the marvel movies with Civil War and newer (I also went back for winter solider).

I heard there were a lot of callbacks to thor 1/2 avengers that I didn't get, so I just thought it was a fun film, but not the best marvel movie by any means. The guys I went with were quoted as saying "This was the best marvel film"

i guess seeing loki's reactions meant a lot huh

Loki is a top 5 MCU character for me, so yeah, you're missing a lot if this is your first introduction to him. The first two Thor movies are bottom tier MCU movies for me, but he alone makes them worth watching. He's excellent in the first Avengers, too.

Well, I don't think the MCU is the greatest thing ever, but I've always enjoyed superhero stuff. Plus, I don't watch a lot of movies to begin with, so it doesn't really feel overwhelming to keep up with either. I just watch a movie every 3-6 months and I'm good to go.

Iron Man 1 is pretty much the middle of the road for MCU movies for me.

In Yu Yu Hakusho, Kuwabara gets DQ'd because he's dumb, but his sister is already a potential Deadpan Snarker Hall of Famer. Botan is apparently a certified trainer, and she thinks slapping people in the face is an advanced technique or something. Thankfully, Kurama and Hiei work quickly, and we're treated to several panorama shots of everyone staring in disbelief with their mouths agape. Finally, Yusuke says THANK YOU FOR WAKING ME UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP and we have a new ED. I miss the old ED already.

Man, Sonic Forces has been a blast. Classic Sonic is very easy and his one stage I tried wasn't anything special, but the Avatar is pretty fun with some mechanics similar to Colors, and Modern Sonic is excellent. He controls just fine like in Generations. Also did the first stage with co-op Sonic and Avatar, and when you do that double boost, you get the hypest butt rock you could ask for. The important part: Music is 10/10

From what I've been hearing, the Avatar levels are the best part of the game.

I mean, customized characters are extremely low on the list of things I want in a game. I always just go default Shepard in Mass Effect. I had friends who could spend hours messing around with Create-A-Character modes in games, but that's never been me.

I'm bad about remembering which games came out which year, but Odyssey would be a GOTY contender for me in just about any year. The other two, it would depend on the year.

I always default male Shep because Mark Vanderloo looks perfect for the job

I think it's worth messing with the CAC for games like ME where they show your avatar in conversations

I never bother with them in games where headgear obstructs the face during conversations or if you rarely see your characters from the front. Like Fallout I just roll with the default because I always use power armor.

Once you're in the game, you also get different weapons and costumes. Of coirse I'm going with Phantom Thief Avatar, but this is purely cosmetic. The weapons... Well in the stages so far, it gives you a clear path for the weapon you picked, and a main path if you don't wanna bother with that at all. Just like the power ups in Colors.

In Hyouka, I can't help but feel bad for Hotaro realizing that Irisu was manipulating him from the start. I was thinking about why Hotaro gets so mad at the end when he finds out, particularly when he finds out she was just lying about thinking he was special (although later on she says maybe not everything she said was a lie). However, throughout the show, he insists he's as normal and average as it gets, and every deduction he gets right is just luck.

I think there's a part of him that doesn't want to be special. He seems to view the expectations and responsibilities that come with it as a burden. Ultimately, I think he's afraid he won't be able to meet those expectations or shoulder the responsibilities. That's why he was initially reluctant to help Eru solve the case with her uncle. He didn't want to be held responsible if he couldn't solve it since it was such a big deal to her.

I think there's also a part of him that feels like his sister set the bar so high that there's no way he'd ever be able to reach it, so it could only end in disappointment if he tried. Hotaro even tells Eru as much at one point. He says he could never hope to match Tomoe, but he's also never really wanted to either. He wants to keep his expectations low for whatever the reason, so even if he never really accomplishes anything special, it'll be okay because he wasn't special to begin with. It makes Hotaro a fascinating character in my eyes, and pretty relatable, to boot. I can understand being paralyzed by a fear of failure so much that you'd rather not try at all than try and fail.

For Hyouka, it's been too long since I watched it to remember specific character motivations like that. I do remember Irisu being great, though not exactly why... I definitely liked her and Eru more than Hotaro though, who kinda frustrated me sometimes.

I'm rarely a fan of characters who are unapologetically manipulative and adhere to an "end justifies the means" philosophy, especially when they do it to characters I like, so while Irisu occasionally shows signs of being more than just that, it's the front she presents to everyone, so it's her own fault.

Hotaro's character development and trying to read between the lines on him is one of the best parts of the show. The main four are all good though. The cast chemistry is excellent between them because they're all different and yet they complement each other really well.

well the game lets you cheat by buying extra Moons so it balances out I guess

Yeah the main four makes a great group. I really enjoy manipulative characters in general though. Almost always tops for me. One of my favorite twists is when a seemingly innocent cute girl is revealed to be manipulating everything all along.

Huh, apparently there was a Tales game announced for Switch a few months ago? Guess I missed that or forgot about it. Wonder if it's one of the three Switch exclusives Namco has planned.

yeah this is the worst thing because don't betray someone I care about even if they're fictional

the best thing is when it backfires on them which is why I can still love someone like Loki because he rarely gets away scot-free with his antics (and the movies are really good at teasing you that he and Thor will reconcile one of these days and you root for it)

In Hyouka, the finale of the film arc just cements that it really bothers me that Irisu can just sit there and not care as Hotaro is clearly tormented by what she did to him because he didn't deserve that. I'm glad his sister calls her out on that crap at the end. For as much grief as Tomoe gives him, she clearly loves her brother. It's one of those sibling "I can do it to him but don't anyone else dare to it to him" type things. It was difficult watching Hotaro writhe over the fact that he felt like he failed, no matter how much everyone complimented him on how good the ending he came up with was. I'm not sure he shows so much visible emotion in the rest of the show combined.

The swimming pool episode was a decent breather episode. It was nice seeing all of Hotaro's friends show concern over the funk he was in, even Mayaka. Eru gets to be a big sweetheart in this episode as she insists that Hotaro is special to her regardless of what he may think of himself and tries to verbalize it the best she can to cheer him up.

Tournament arcs are notorious because of all the bystanders and staff that can say pointless things ad nauseum and pad time.
