are you saying that the input is not one that is used in fighting games or talking about the strictness of the inputs? i would say otherwise on both accounts but on the latter point that with modern games being more input-lenient, i think frustration is obviously justifiable.

It's not necessarily even the strictness of the inputs. It's just the way the inputs register is totally different. I've played fighting games with a D-pad my whole life so this isn't an issue of not being used to it. It's just not the same way an actual fighting game does special move inputs.

Well, it might be the way the original Street Fighter does special move inputs, but that game is garbage.

I wonder if there's any significant differences in the subtitles for animes available on both Crunchyroll and Funimation. This feels like a question I should be able to google but I couldn't find anything.

Anyway, my plan right now is to focus on a few Crunchyroll-only animes (accepting recs if anyone is interested in seeing what I think about things) and then I'll let my free trial lapse to focus on other sources. Eventually I'll go back because I can't watch everything in ten days but I don't want to pay for a month if I'll be spending 2/3 of it elsewhere.

I also finally bought the Clannad VN! I won't start it right away but once I do I imagine that'll keep me busy for awhile. Have you ever read it, Leon, or did you just watch the anime?

I've read the Clannad VN, yes. I think I probably put more time into it than literally everything else I've played on Steam combined. I guess that'll change once I get done with three Trails games.

Nice, I'll be able to post VN comments in these topics then without worrying about confusion!

Literally anything as long as it's only available on Crunchyroll (meaning, not also on Netflix or Funimation). Like, there are probably a few things I wouldn't care for but they aren't significant enough to list.

Yeah, I 100%'d Clannad, so I will be able to follow along with anything you say without a problem.

As far as Crunchyroll recommendations, there's Working!! (listed as Wagnaria!! on Crunchyroll for some reason) if you want a show set in a restaurant that's actually good. I also highly recommend My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and ReLIFE.

In Fate/Zero, Rider continues to be the best even though he was barely in these two episodes. Also, apparently everyone's mad that Caster and his master aren't taking the Grail War very seriously, so Manfred von Karma orders everyone to gang up on them and eliminate them. The reward is an extra Command Seal (Prediction: Someone not having a Command Seal at their disposal when they need it is going to cost someone a fight at some point). Caster thinks Saber is Joan of Arc, and Lancer comes to her rescue. There's lots of intrigue everywhere as the masters try to take each other out without having to have their servants fight. I guess that's one way to go about it.

My rec of Madoka Magica still stands because I really do think you'd like it. (In case you don't know much about it I'll mention that it's appearance is somewhat deceptive.) There's also The World God Only Knows, which was surprisingly good and seems like it might be up your alley as a VN fan?

Here's a few other pretty popular shows that I approve of on Crunchy. These recs aren't really specific to you but are just recs I'd give to anime fans in general:

--From the New World (AKA Shin Sekai Yori)
--My Hero Academia
--Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
--Psycho Pass
--Ouran High School Host Club

Action/Adventure:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Kill la Kill
Space Patrol Luluco

these are all Trigger shows (technically TTGL was before Trigger formed but it's in the same spirit). i'd say how you feel about one would give you a good idea of how you feel about the others. lot of action, hype, wacky "random" anime moments, crazy animation. Luluco is a short show (13 episodes/7 min. each)

Drama:
Fate/Zero
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Suisei no Gargantia

these are all Urobuchi Gen shows. dramatic twists and turns and good old serious fun.

Adventure:
Log Horizon

The premise is that virtual MMO players are stuck in their game and can't go back to the real world. There is another popular show with a similar premise but it is not a show most people would recommend. The emphasis in Log Horizon is on world exploration as the players try to navigate and discover the rules of their new home with their MMO knowledge.

School/Workplace Drama:

Shirobako
Hibike Euphonium

Shirobako is an anime about making anime. It follows five girls through their lives and their work in the anime industry while detailing the anime-making process. I'd say this would be more appealing once you become a bigger anime fan but it's still a good show otherwise.

Hibike Euphonium is a school drama about some girls in their music club. They're all at various levels of familiarity and desire with playing in a school band.

Rom-Com:
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Adorable girl likes guy who makes manga and ends up working as his assistant. Fantastic supporting cast and will melt your heart.

Comedy:
Sakamoto desu ga?
WataMote

Sakamoto is about the perfect pure-hearted boy and his attempts to yet better himself wholeheartedly. WataMote is about a socially anxious, bitter girl and her attempts to become popular for selfish gain. cringe.

SOL:
Non Non Biyori

slice of life anime are relaxing shows where not a lot happens plot-wise but let you glimpse into the everyday lives of its characters while you melt into your sofa/chair/blanket.

i checked and these are all not on funi? i don't know about netflix since i don't have my account anymore but i think Kill la Kill, Fate/Zero, and Madoka are on there. included them anyway in case they weren't.

I...don't know that I'd classify Nozaki-kun as a Rom-Com. I think of it more as a comedy because even the romance is played for laughs and none of it is really taken seriously.

Actually let's add Chihayafuru to my list also even if it doesn't have too large a fanbase. It's an anime about a seemingly boring card game, but it makes up for it to somehow be engaging anyways through good music and some absolutely stellar directing. Characters are pretty great also.

I don't think Leonhart4 would like Madoka Magica. Although, I didn't think he would like Fate/Zero either. However, Madoka doesn't have Rider which might be a problem.

Shirobako is a good recommendation. The cast is solid and you get to learn how anime is made.

Yes that was directed at Roba, though I do also think Leon would like Madoka. (I'd call it a bit of a gamble in his case but I think liking it is more likely than not.)

Also I really do not think Shirobako is a good recommendation for someone new to anime. Though then again I'm not as much of a fan of that show as everyone else is anyways.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't ask for recommendations in this topic if only to avoid confusion! I feel like I have plenty of good ones to work through now too, though, so thanks again everyone.

Also, Leon, i know you said not to worry but can always tell me to tone it down. I just like talking a bit about things I'm watching, I don't want to get forced out for being a nuisance. Plus no one would actually follow a Robazoid Anime Funtime Topic >_>

hey this topic isn't at 500 yet

A couple of friends invited me over to watch some movies, and we ended up watching A New Hope and The Empire Strikes back, which is kinda fortuitous because I was thinking of re-watching all the Star Wars movies before The Last Jedi comes out next month. The Tattooine stuff in ANH kinda shows its age now, but it's a really good movie once they leave the planet. ESB is still a legitimately excellent movie from start to finish.

In Yu Yu Hakusho, Kuwabara manages to defeat the other Toguro brother so thoroughly that I thought there had to be a catch to it...which there kinda was, but he still won legit. Sakyo wagers his life on the final and Koenma accepts. We're officially at the halfway point of the show, whew. Oh hey, and new ED. Still not as good as the first, but better than the second.
