We are not doing this correctly I'm pretty sure. Advice recipes and such are appreciated. Any judgmental crap is unwelcome.

i did it for a while and it genuinely works as long as you stick with it.

-eggs are pretty central to your diet, learn to love them
-avocados are filling not to mention delicious
-pork rinds are great if you ever get the munchies
-don't get discouraged when the weight loss begins to stagnate. it's gonna be crazy fast at first but plateaus can happen sooner than you think.

good luck!

Well just about wrapped up day 3. I've been making interesting recipes for dinner. No eggs yet we kinda hate them. My macros for today were the best so far.

I dunno much about keto, but (as a non-fan of fried eggs myself) there are lots of other things you can do with eggs. you could make an egg/cheddar/bacon/smoked sausage casserole. or hard-boiled eggs in chicken curry.

Good luck guys. I had a friend lose like 45 lbs in 5 or 6 months on the keto diet. It sort of changed his attitude around everyone though and he was a bit grumpier at times.

Keep focused though and you should get results.

I've lost about 70 pounds since April doing keto (I'm at 250 now). I could've lost more by now but I've eased up a lot in the last few months. At first I was also walking about 2-3 miles a day and doing intermittent fasting - I would usually fast for 2 days, and the rest of the week try to eat only 1-2 meals a day. Once you hit ketosis your appetite will go way down, so it's much easier than it sounds.

-Get a good scale, but don't weigh yourself every day. Weight fluctuates day to day and it's easy to get obsessed with it, especially if you start to plateau. I would weigh about once a week and keep track of it.
-Remember it's ok to splurge occasionally, but try to be mindful of your diet while doing so

My weight really doesn't fluctuate...as long as I weigh myself in the morning. When I eat consistently average I generally stay the same number on the scale for weeks. If I'm eating consistently bad the pounds go up consistently too. I realize this first week is supposed to be water weight but it still feels good to have a lower number instead of the same one I've been seen the last 2 months or so. Just so I know I'm eating sort of right then. I'm below 200 pounds so maybe that is why I don't have a big flux day to day.

I just don't know if I can keep this up long term. We will likely have a beer Saturday and ingest more carbs than required for ketosis. From what I've read you can't really have cheat days on keto. Can anyone speak more to this especially those of you who have been at it a while?

It's good to have the occasional cheat day. Constantly denying yourself things you like is likely just going to make you feel depressed about the whole thing. You're not going to undo all of your work with one bad meal. Like if you're planning on going out with friends, or celebrating something (or even just having date night) don't let the diet get in your way.

Just keep in mind stuff like, order water with dinner instead of soda, take it easy on desserts, that kind of thing. Like I said earlier, your appetite should go way down, so it should get to the point of not even wanting to cheat that much.

cheat days dont work for me just cuz i have low self-control; if i fuck up for one meal its pretty much over for me. if you can enjoy some whole wheat pasta once in a while and stay on track then more power to you, but i had to quit carbs cold turkey (which is a great replacement for snacking)

My understanding is that there isn't anything really inherent to keto that makes it more effective than other diets (still the same old CICO), but its black and white nature in the macronutrient breakdown makes for a solid plan that you can't wiggle out of. If you go halfway on keto, you're going to be in for a bad time. Therefore a wholesale lifestyle change is integral and that's always the most important part of any diet for weight loss.

I'm personally skeptical of it for long term and think extended planning is good for an "exit strategy," but I think it's an okay thing to try temporarily. It has a lengthy history of use for easing epilepsy, especially in children, so I think it's plausible it could be beneficial for other neurological conditions. But even for those children I don't believe they're kept on for longer than a year.

So hopefully we see results.

Recipes so far:
Cajun chicken tacos(lettuce wrap)
Chicken sausage masala with cauliflower rice
Reuben enchiladas(Cabbage wrap I didn't eat it it was gross but the insides were yummy)
Buffalo chicken soup(favorite so far)
Keto mousse cups(pretty indulgent. Need to eat more protein and less fat for the meal if I want this dessert)

Cheat days are OK because you are on a healthy diet and sometimes eat poorly. Working cheat days into diets is usually bad. I would skip cheat days until you barely even want them. Youre making a holistic life change, you need to go for it.

Tomorrow I'm going to have a beer and maybe eat a couple bites of mashed potatoes. Not sure if that's a while cheat day or not but if I do it right I might still be able to stay below 50 g carbs.

In other news I never hit the keto flu so I got tests strips and I am def in ketosis! I am so unreasonably happy lol.

This is true, I was mainly trying to say it's not the end of the world if you do cheat.

If your electrolyte levels are high, you'll figuratively skip the keto flu. Keto sticks are not really the best way to test for ketosis, but generally speaking, you'll be in that state after about 48 hours of low carbing.

Yes I worked very hard to keep my electrolytes in check :)

Did have 16oz of beer last night but ate totally keto at the bar. Bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with chorizo and cheese, and a meat and cheese board sans the crackers and bread. We we're there for a while so we ordered buffalo wings as well and I regretted eating those.

However, today I am still registering ketones and I am down 5 pounds from last Sunday :)

Scratch that last post. I'm doing better than I thought. I just ate more calories than I had been but it didn't seemed to affect me negatively.

Today is keto thanksgiving! So thankful I found recipes I like to eat and even eddv is on board with this new lifestyle. I'm making roasted turkey legs, creamy mashed cauliflower, and a pumpkin cheesecake pie. Might have hard boiled eggs and bacon to snack on while I cook.

In other news I'm down 8 pounds. Totally set to hit my first goal of 15 pounds way ahead of schedule. Dec 19th was my goal date.

Also anagrams diet topic last way longer than this. I'm not letting this topic go lol.

Still hasn't purged. Ok so turns out I accidently bought a sweetener/sugar baking blend instead of just a 0 calorie sweetener. So the pie became un keto. I can cut the pieces into halves or fourths and still stay within my limits. Ordering better sweeteners soon.
