Donnie Darko

This is a pretty well-loved film.

Didn't age very well in that regard. Director's cut existing also hurts it.

Yeah this is one of those movies that I think was popular at first but became pretty polarizing over time, with a lot of people hating on it pretty hard

I kinda liked Space Jam as a kid, and this was in spite of hating Bugs Bunny even as a kid, but I still fear it wouldn't age well, so I've avoided watching it again.

even as a kid i didn't care much for the original TMNT movie but i didn't even like the turtles that much to begin with. (i'm probably the only '90s kid with this opinion lol.)

i did like space jam but i haven't seen it since i was a kid. i'm sure if i'd watch it now i'd be like "yeah, this is actually terrible."

Why is this just the default assumption for some people?

I mean if you were to rewatch the movie and went in with this attitude you probably would think it sucks.

for one thing i can't imagine michael jordan's acting actually being good. as a kid you don't care about stuff like "how good is the acting?"

for another, the whole "let's have a movie with the looney tunes and michael jordan" thing just seems like a cheap attempt to make cash.

i'm sure the classic looney tunes cartoons would still hold up if i were to watch them today but space jam? eh, maybe, but i'm skeptical.

Not necessarily. I've rewatched a lot of things I was skeptical would hold up and a lot of them surprisingly held up really well. Heck the aforementioned TMNT1 was one of them a few years back, and is actually why I know conclusively TMNT1 and TMNT2 are very different creatures as a movie (kid Lopen thought TMNT3 was where the huge quality dropoff was and thought TMNT2 was also great but he was wrong)

I mean maybe Space Jam being more of a "lock" for this would taint it further but eh. I don't think expectation bias influences perception for everyone quite as much as you think it does. That being said maybe it does hold up-- I'm just not eager to test it.
