Conservatives are having a meltdown after a new course called "White Racism" is being offered at a Florida University!!

Sociology professor Ted Thornhill is defending the course at Florida Gulf Coast University stating its premise against critics who say it targets white students. He said "Much evidence, both historical and sociological, shows the US has been and remains a white supremacist society. That is, a racially stratified socieety wehre whiteness is more highly valued and therefore associated with greater life chances"

He said it would cover scholarship documenting that state of affairs and stated "My White Racism course is not anti-white; it is anti-white racism. Clearly, not all white people are racists. some are even anti-racist. However, all people racialized as white derive, in some measures, material, psychological benefits by virtue of being racialized as white"

People have praised the course and the professor but of course, conservatives are not happy campers as crybaby Alex Pilkington, an accounting major and treasurer of the FGCU College Republicans said "I would have preferred a name more like "Systemic Racism" because giving it "White Racism" as the name of the class i feel like it's intentional that you are trying to make white people look at the class a certain way"

Ted also says that white students will benefit from his course because "Too many Americans, especially whites, are cocooned in a "bubble of unreality" as it concerns racial matters. My job as a sociology professor is, in part, to facilitate students learning toward a data-informed understanding of the social world. And that is the goal of my White Racism course"

Maybe if it showed up in a real school like Harvard or something, but not Florida Gulf Coast University.

Seems fine. There are plenty of extremely specific courses offered in college.

Given that a black professor in my state claimed that whites invented slavery and were the only practitioners, it's pretty safe to say that educational standards are in the crapper.

That's because they're scared. They know in a free and equal world, the naturally gifted and skilled will rise, while their sorry asses will be left behind without a friend in the world.

Except whites have been notoriously and systematically racist in this country to most other racial groups. Hell, in my experience they're STILL very racist, even the ones who overtly try to act progressive.

A professor of what? You can do a fine job of teaching physics without a solid understanding of history. That doesn't really say anything about educational standards without further clarification.
