I guess I'm more partial to Sci-Fi than fantasy, but I'm open to both and there are a lot of shit out there in both genres.

I prefer fantasy overall, though there are always exceptions.

Mostly I dislike sci-fi that takes place in space. I just... can't get interested in space settings. I prefer gorgeous, magical forests, mountains, rivers, oceans, castles, etc.

I don't necessarily dislike sci-fi but I like fantasy infinitely more.

As for why...iunno. I find fantasy settings generally more interesting to read about than sci-fi ones. I've always loved fantasy in general - sword-and-board fighting and spells and such. Redwall was the first fantasy series I really got into and, though I recognize it's more-or-less the same story written 20 times, I'm still fond of it.

This topic was made like two weeks ago, and the exact same thing happened. Someone suggest something and is immediately rebuffed by a sci-fi purist who doesn't want to admit that there is wacky technobabble and fantastic plot devices in even the most classic of sci-fi works.

Both Star Trek and Star Wars are sci-fi. They are completely different because it's a big fucking genre, but they are what they are.

what? that's ridiculous, of course it is. why wouldn't it be?

It has nothing to do with sci-fi. It's a procedural drama that happens to take place in space. Likewise I will note that Star Wars is fantasy, which happens to take place in space.

Isaac asimov books are good.

Intersetllar for movies, or adaptation like 2001: space odyssey

For videogame i dunno, the mainstream one is probably mass effect. Even that mass effect is stretching it far. but i know of a small project, called TITAN outpost which is a hard sci fi rpg take place in near future where humans have mining operation in titan.

Sci-fi, but mainly hard sci-fi.

I kind of hate fantasy in everything except video games.

They're both blends of multiple genres.
Star Trek is a sci-fi drama and Star Wars is a sci-fi fantasy.

Avatar (not the airbender one) is also considered to be sci-fi.

I like them both so long as it's harder sci-fi and more Tolkien-esque fantasy that doesn't have excessive magic. When faced between the two, I'll go with whichever one is like that.
