I recognized him because I happened to see one of his videos recently. Then all of the sudden every click bait blogger must have thought that they had to make a story about how everyone is mad and hated the cameo.

Not really. The allegations of controversy were bigger than any actual controversy.

That said, it does seem like a stupid cameo if you're familiar with the guy.

It's just people being dumb. There have been loads of cameos. Getting mad because of the ONE guy you recognise is dumb af.

In the Red Wedding episode, there was a guy playing drums who was the ACTUAL DRUMMER FROM COLDPLAY.

The drummer from one of the biggest bands in the world playing drums in one of the most important episodes of the most popular show in the world and barely anyone noticed.

Honestly, if I cared at all about GoT, I'd be a little annoyed at it as well. Like, it sounds like a pretty blatant and cheap publicity stunt casting a trendy pop star to make a guest appearance in a gritty fantasy world. You have to know that anyone seeing him isn't going to be seeing him as any other character than "Ed Sheeran".

And I wouldn't want to see a show that I've grown to love go down a road like that.

I could get behind that, though. He's not actually acting or anything. It's just a drummer being a drummer in a show. That makes sense. Maybe if they had Sheeran play a bard or something, it'd work. Was he a bard?

I didn't know who Ed Sheeran was so I didn't really pay it any mind although if I knew I might have been a little annoyed.

Having a drummer drum in the background is fine, but you got a really good look at Ed, he talked a bit, and then he sang. 10 or 15 years down the road when he's likely forgotten, nobody would bat an eye at the scene (since I didn't) but I can relate to anybody who was annoyed since it was a distracting cameo that really seemed to be there just because it was Ed Sheeran.

Not only was the drummer from Coldplay on the show, so were members of Mastodon.

I love Sigur Ros' cameo because they were playing music in the show, and were shoo'd away for being boring, which is actually not an uncommon complaint about their actual music.
