I went from rank 14 to 44 in about an hour.

Yea the way that works is, your rank gets capped at a fee points (14 and 29 and 49) until you complete certain quests. But it still keeps track of your experience. So you can go straight from 14 to 29, and then gain a whole bunch more after 29 uncaps too

Did all the Arena quests last night. Kind of fun trying out weapons I never use and figuring them out, but man did that double Diablos quest suck ass. You can stand anywhere without being stomped all over them. Eventually I found out that the Lance they give you can block every single thing. I don't think I'll start using that regularly, but I might make a Lance set just for Black Diablos since it sucks so much to fight.

Got Nergigante down on my third try, with a hammer. That was a cool fight! I need to start looking more into armor.I want to use daiblos hammers so I know I have to offset the negative affinity somehow with skills like weakness exploit.

Weakness exploit is the best there is really. And as soon as you get an elementless gem, use it.

Yes, although harder quests have better chances of dropping better decorations. The best odds are from threat level 2 and 3 tempered quest. You can also do the highest level if decoration ritual at the melder for a chance at the best decorations

I had some trouble playing SnS against Teo. Smashed his face in with the switch axe immediately after, though.

All the other elder dragons gave me no trouble at all. Playing solo in this game is way easier than it's ever been. Monsters have such a small amount of HP. It's crazy

oh yeah i one shotted all the elder dragons by myself past nergigante. carted twice against teostra but got him on my last life. responding to sos quests is when it can get real rough. it's not uncommon seeing people get insta-killed by the nova explosion!

i've not gone out of my way to fight tempered enemies yet. just grinding out all sorts of weapons and armor sets.

I've failed more sos quests on Nerg than any other elder

almost every time I answer a Nerg sos the entire team either wipes to the first dive or as soon as Nerg wakes up

I only ever really fight nerg with my friends or by only answering SOS's with Japanese players whose HR is higher than my age.

I made my Diablos Shatterer II AND while using it beat Teostra on my first try. Pretty good day I'd say! I even had an Elementless gem lying around that I didn't know I had.

Fire is alright actually. The problem is more that element is bad in general on most weapons. Bow, lance, and *possibly* but probably not sword and shield and dual blades are the exceptions.

Element is especially bad on charge blades this time around and you really want to always use impact phials, if your goal is to maximise damage output.

That said, use what you think looks cool and you will still do alright. Just will be somewhat slower in clear times

yea I think the elements only deal about 1/10 of the advertised damage so it's only really worth it when using weapons that do a lot of hits

All the damage numbers on the weapon info page is inflated. For raw damage, every weapon type has a unique modifier that generally reflects how quickly and how powerful each hit of the weapon is. Faster weapons with low damage per hit have lower modifiers (sns, db, guns etc), wheras something like a great sword or hammer has a high modifier. All weapon types have similar true raw values though.

For element and status, you are correct im that every value is inflated by a flat 10x for everything. 400 points of listes fire damage equates to 40 actual fire

This gets confusing when skills list the true value of a damge buff (attack boost, for example, lists the true damage buff, before inflation), but things like element up list inflated numbers

In short, capcom is dumb and likes to make things needlessly complicated

I really like the idea of elemental weapons. Crafting a suite of different weapons is cool.

It's just a shame they're rarely useful

If you like element and want it to deal good damage, try lance or bow. Optimal bow elemeny builds can be hard to make but it should still be pretty good without that. Dual blades, sword and shield and insect glaive would do pretty well with it too, but db and glaive have diablos weapons that overshadow element with a non elemental boost set up (although a crit element db build might be just as good).

Sns does good with element, but its highest damaging combo now favors raw damage unfortunately. However, this combo is somewhat difficult to spam effectively and element builds are more straight forward and reliable
