Day 8?

Yesterday we fixed another FF game. We decided it needed

-to make the world more interactable world
-more character and battle customization
-postgame content
-some story/character devlopment changes

Today is the 3rd person shooter taking the world by storm. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. While it's immensely popular it has a fair amount of detractors too. Myself included, really looking forward to this one.

1. Most of my problems with game can be fixed with one solution, make the map smaller.

- The game would run smoothet
- Less time spent just running towards the center of the circle
-Combat encounters happen sooner requiring more strategy than luck

2. Secondly I would be taking more cues from Battle Royale or The Hunger Games. Everyone should spawn in the same area and have the choice of trying to escape and survive or capitalize on easy kills.

3. I know the pc version has started doing this but we need more maps. The main one is just so generic and boring.

4. Give us environmental hazards, that way games can go faster and you don't have to use a kill some until the end.

Might be posting more later. This game has a lot of potential, but I have like no fun playing it.

I haven't played since November so they might've updated, but I really wanted a mode where there were no scopes higher than 2x. It would force closer battles rather than favoring the elite snipers

There's not a goddamn thing i would change game play wise . It's a perfect game.

What needs fixing are all the things preventing it from being playable. Desync, vehicle physics being kind of fucked, cheaters, etc

Ignoring the obvious buggy things

It's kinda imbalanced gameplay. If you're in a super heavy drop zone it's frantic scrambling for a gun. If you're in a super light drop zone there's very little to do early.

I think melee mechanics being a bit more snug would help a lot with the scrambling issue since there'd actually be a bit more of a risk of getting punched dead if you just run for a gun and ignore everyone. Also the melee weapons are garbage because of the melee mechanics being garbage. I'd like to see those improved at minimum even if punching continues to suck.

So yeah make meleeing better is probably #1 improvement for me.

This is a feature though. I don't think this needs fixing. I love that I can drop at a hot zone for tons of early action or drop at a little hamlet in the middle of nowhere and gear up alone. The difference in reward for these two options a pretty appropriate. If you survive the blood bath at the cornucopia you usually walk away with good weapons, armour, meds and scopes. If you drop in the hamlet you walk out with a shotgun and lvl 1 armour.

It's the best executed impact of choice Ive seen in a multiplayer game.

My ideal environment is usually a small town or landmark that one or two other squads land at with me and the victor claims.claims . the area, but I'll go basically anywhere. Every game is a different story and that's why the game is so good.

Def agree about melee, it's one of the buggy nonfunctional aspects of the game.

I think having the choice is nice I just think it's a bit too extreme on either end whichever option you choose. If you're isolated you're often not finding action until like the top 30. If you're in a hot drop the game is too often decided entirely by who gets a gun first. The ideal is somewhere in the middle but you can't reliably get that.

Not really sure how to fix it but I do think "scrambling for a gun" being a big part of the meaningful gameplay on the hot drops isn't optimal and melee being a bit better would fix that, at the very least.

I don't think it''s hard to get the middle ground at all though. Yeah if you land on the school roof, the military barracks, or the tops of sea can's, hacienda, or the battle arena in pecado, it's often just a rush to find the first gun.

But even in those areas, you can just land slightly off from the gun frenzy. Land on the ground and walk into the first floor of the school and you have plenty of time. Land in the little garages in the southwest side of military. Land in the houses in Georgepol or novorepnoye and then move into the sea cans. Going to these places is pretty much always safe to find a gun before you start looking for trouble.

Even Pochinki, which is NEVER clear, you can just watch the other parachutes and land in houses they arent going to.

If you do this, you might miss the initial action of everyone fighting each other. .. but that's kind of the point.

I often participate in the mad scramble for guns, but it's easily avoidable if you don't like it, while still being near the action.

Miramar does have a problem with there being no action if you don't drop Pecado or Hacienda though. I wish that map had been smaller.

It is definitely a lot more annoying in Miramar-- that's mostly because there aren't that many locations that have any drop appeal that aren't "everyone drops here."

Erangel has a lot of places that are reasonably popular but not school level popular-- it does suck when you're the only one that drops there, which does happen somewhat often, but yeah. Ideally the super popular places would be a bit less of a scramble is all I'm saying so you could reliably get fights if you really wanted em without degenerate play being such a big part of it. There are ways to make it less of one but even landing at weird places in the hot drops there is more of that going on than I'd like on those drops.

I think the hotdrop gun scramble problem can be solved via either guaranteed gun spawn locations (ideally marked on the minimap) in really hot drops or shorter load times overall (so dying to bad rng doesn't result in a 2 minute wait).

I agree that dropping smart can help mitigate this but I've seen players much much better than all of us get completely screwed due to gun rng in a team setting. If you hotdrop an area and 3/4ths of your squad don't get a gun despite all landing near high spawn location houses in hacienda, losing feels far more about RNG than anything else.

Maybe using some sort of ML algorithm to bias the spawn distribution would help (e.g. analyze how many players die without a gun and adjusting the distribution until that player count is minimized, while also attempting to maximize the number of firefights)

I hate hate hate the idea of guaranteed loot spawns on dropping. It's even worse than RNG loot - it's just a matter of who runs to that spot and picked up the gun first.

I'd be okay with guaranteed loot spawns if it was somewhere you couldn't drop, or maybe if it was added later and broadcast so everyone nearby knows about it. Making it a mid game objective for teams to decide "okay, let's head to Mylta Power for lvl 3 helmets" and possibly compete against other teams heading there for the same thing sounds awesome. But everyone just dropping there to get lvl3 helmets immediately would be awful.

Crate drops kind of fill this role already but I think theres more room in that space

Minor fixes:
1. Smaller area like people have said
2. Far more cover in that smaller area... being forced through a field and sniped is so dumb
3. More frequent cars would help with 1 and 2 as well, but the cars need to not be totally shit death machines
4. More health packs so small early damage doesn't screw you so hard through the rest of the game

KEY FIX: Reduce randomness of circles. The circle nearly single-handedly decides the winners anytime after the early game. There are great and fair choices to make during the boring initial gearing phase, but after that it's all massive RNG due to the circle. Make it so you can place beacons or complete an objective or something to influence where the circle will end up, so there's some actual strategy in the mid-game and some investment you can make to protect yourself for the end-game. Fortnite's building is a great example of mid-game investment for late game, but it's way too complicated and is still mostly RNG (though I think they added a new mode that is less RNG). PUBG should be able to figure out an RNG-dampening thing like that but which maintains its simplicity vs Fortnite.
