article's freaking long. some thoughts from a short skim of the content:

- seems suspiciously like deciding on a conclusion and then looking for evidence to support it, rather than the other way around

- reminded of atheism. the concept only needs to exist insofar as it's a counter-position to theism. the same I think is true of homosexuality VS heterosexuality. they each need to make themselves distinct from the other. so over time they both grow in strength. but just because the terms didn't exist before doesn't mean that the underlying points of view didn't. heterosexuality was more or less just taken for granted, like many concepts in the world before we understood them or thought about them.

I'm not gonna read that entire thing since I'm at work but the little I read was claiming that labels of sexual orientation didn't exist before 1868... what kind of revisionist history is that? Hell, the bible and Quran make references toward homosexuality and those have been around longer than 150 years

Societal expectations and indoctrination would definitely play a role I'd expect. Although I am more of the mindset everyone is bi, just with a preference going in a direction (the Kinsey scale basically)

There idea was the there was straight and then there was deviant behavior, that the term heterosexual didn't have meaning in a society where the only alternative was seen as a simple act rather than a mode.

Basically
Anlong time who anyone would fuck anyone but humans began marrying and they married into opposite sex because their marriage could bring children

Now nobody cares about marriage and just wants to fuck
But acts like they have to be straight or something when everyone just wants to fuck everyone

Im over simplifying his points of course

But its the idea that
I choose to be straight in the same way I choose not the be attracted to overweight guys
