Had like no luck at all in wild today. But in standard I climbed from like 670 to around 300 (I hit the gold cap so I stopped). I had a game against like dmh warrior where he won a 1/6 brawl and after that I got him to ONE HP. Like even if my worst minion won that brawl I win the game (I lost). But after that I was blessed with some godly rng and draws. So it all evened out.

Are there prizes for playing Tavern Brawl other than the free pack for your first win?

Also, I've never seen a place where I could choose between standard and wild while creating a deck. Is this because I don't have any cards that would make my deck a non-standard deck?

And a couple more about the upcoming expansion... Once it is released, those cards will be playable in standard through March of 2020? And how many of you regularly purchase the pre-order for upcoming expansions? Is it something that you only do when a particular set looks interesting to you? Have any of you played for 6+ months without spending any money on the game at all?

Three Kobolds packs this week, but no, not usually. There was a couple of card backs given from previous brawls, and then there's the daily quest for 60 gold you can occasionally get that requires you to win 5. They've also had a few Heroic Tavern Brawls, where you spend 1,000 of your own gold and create your own deck and then essentially play arena with it, giving you rewards based on the number of wins you get. I'm an average player so the rewards weren't enough to tempt me into giving up 1,000 gold.

Not sure how it works with no wild cards, but normally when you have a decklist open you can convert it to wild, as well as copy a code to share your deck, by hovering over the name/hero at the top of the decklist.

The cards from the new set will be in standard until the first expansion of 2020, which will likely be in April if they keep up the same schedule. April/August/December, usually about a third of the way into the month. Old Gods, Karazhan and Gadgetzan rotate this April, Ungoro, Frozen Throne and Kobolds next April.

I don't pre-order, I'm strictly free to play. Shortly after an expansion hits I stop buying packs and just save all of my gold up, then I can usually buy 50-60 packs when the next one releases. I've spent $0 and have played since the first day of the open beta, so a little over four years ago. I did stop for a while, I think it was 4-6 months or so, around the time of the Grand Tournament expansion, so I have very few cards from that set.

I attempted to be free to play for over a year when I started playing, but that involved focusing on one or two classes and disenchanting everything from other classes, with very little progress made. It's not a great long-term strategy either. I still haven't recovered fully, with my Rogue class missing every single Epic/Legendary from the Classic set.

The first money I spent was on Adventures because those cards were vital to most decks. Those aren't a thing anymore so packs would be the way to go. I've probably spent around $200 total on the game which is a relatively small amount when you look at how much it really costs to get most of the cards. You're looking at $300+ per expansion if you just want to open up the cards from packs.

I've never pre-ordered (always gone the gold save-up route), but with the 20 bonus packs being offered along with it being a new Standard year, I've decided to do it for the new expansion.

I'm also a Standard only player, though. Which means I'll be dusting all of the cards rotating out next month, allowing me to gain a bunch of dust to use towards new cards. It means I'll never be able to play Wild, but I have no interest in it anyway.

Too late to edit...

I was playing some dungeon run today even though I completed all of the classes. Wanted to play Hearthstone without winning another game in a mode that counted towards quests. Managed to defeat Tad the hard way and picked up his weapon, though I was never able to actually draw it in the next two games. Finding the Treasure Room is the only thing I've yet to do now.

Also, Togwaggle, what are you doing?

pp41zZw

You can't see it in the sidebar, but a few turns earlier he played the treasure to give himself a hand of coins, then the one to make his minions cost zero, played all of the coins but one and passed the turn. What was the AI going for?

Edit: And a random question, what card is going to be more useful two expansions from now, Valanyr or Grumble? Look into the future, fellow forum posters, for I feel like blowing a chunk of my dust and those two legendaries seem the most fun right now.

Grumble. Easily Grumble. The only reason it isn't seeing play is because shaman isn't seeing play. It's overstatted and has a great ability. As soon as shaman has a deck that will fight for the board and not just play dopplegangster-evolve, Grumble will be a major player.

Very dependant on Shaman getting good cards. Unless almost all of its class cards are awesome this set, it'll have almost nothing good in Standard. Even leading up to the Shamanstone meta it took about 3 straight expansions of Shaman getting staples as it slowly became a good deck.

Camden since you mention Valanyr, I'd reccomend Tarim if you don't have him. After playing with it, that card is nuts and probably just goes into every Paladin deck forever. It's good when ahead, it's good when behind, it's good at parity, it's only bad when you're REALLY far behind.

I actually just opened Grumble and I'm trying out a jade deck with him. There are a lot of good battlecries and synergy in that deck but I don't have Kalimos to run the elemental package too so the early game can be a little painful.

But I beat a big Priest pretty easily by hexing/devolving all of his stuff and getting my jade counter up to 12/12.

I found out that if you double Grumble's battlecry he doesn't give you double minions back into your hand though. I mean it makes sense because the 2nd time his battlecry triggers there aren't any minions left on the board to put back into your hand but still disappointing.

Elemental Shaman needs a god damn curve. Even when it was a mediocre deck around Ungoro launch, it's biggest problem was that you had ONE good one-drop and nothing great to follow up with turn 2. So you still had to play the pirate and jade packages to fill in the holes the deck had. And now those are gone.

Dog just went on a 39 game win streak on EU ladder from rank 18 to 4. I can't believe he managed to get lucky for 39 games straight and the fact that he is a professional Hearthstone player playing against low ranked players at the end of the month had nothing to do with it.

Thoughts:

-- Doomsayer on 4 is such a bad play from him, since it gets punished so easily by Possessed Lackey, he doesn't know if you're Cube or Control yet (if you're control, he wants to save Doomsayers for Dirty Rat protection)... You're at 9 cards. Coldlight oracle all day every day.

--Hellfire on 6 confuses me. I'm not sure why you didn't try to step on the gas there, and you really want those Hellfires for once he starts freezing.

--Prince3 on the frozen Doomguard doesn't get you anything. Tapping for your second hellfire or Gul'Dan is better here.

1. Doomsayer on 4 is still a decent play by him. If I'm cube running giants (which I was) it stops that. He also doesn't have any combo pieces in hand and while it would suck for him if I like ratted out arcanologist or coldlight, it's not like he loses because of it. On top of that, cube sees much more play at upper legend over control. If I have lackey i need to coin it out too which means I can't combo it with cube and pact the next turn either.

2. So on this turn I had 3 plays I was considering. The first was to drop lackey. This is extremely weak to a freeze effect as he can bump and play one with like a second doomsayer or something, or something like artificer. It gives me the most power the next turn, but also provides the most risk. I also have a potential defile with lackey the next turn if he drops books (which he hasn't played yet) I was also considering just cubing the doomguard because I know quest mage has no way to silence minions. However, at the time I had no way of breaking the cube and cubing it puts -1 attack on the board for me. This is relevant because his hp is in a multiple of 5. The other consideration for lackey was that I did have cube so even if he froze and doomsayered I could just cube my doomguard (but even that didn't seem like the best play in the world). Granted, I could have just not played the hellfire which might have been the best play. But I don't think this is matchup where I just don't do anything on a turn. It's just that I don't think any of my plays were particularly good at turn.

3. I played prince 3 because at the time (aside from doomguard) it was the most valuable card in my hand. So I just wanted it on the field. But I still probably should not have played it that turn and took the tap.

Okay, like this is very impressive, but I do think it's a lot easier to do this season because of the ladder changes too. I mean one month (before rank floors). I went all the way from 16 to 3 without losing a game. I believe other players (like Strifecro) have also done this too. So it's not like this is unprecedented.

Note: I might have lost a couple of times during the stretch, but I still think it was impressive.

My perspective (playing generally as the quest mage) is that the matchup's a lot about whether or not you can get pressure on me, namely in the form of forcing me to freeze. Like, the situations you describe as worst-case scenarios in 2 are basically the things I'm afraid of happening whenever I doomsayer, to be honest >_>

Similarly, I'm generally not afraid of giants compared to doomguards. Doomguards have burst with cubes, while giants require setup to get scary with cubes, and I can just respond to that setup with freezes then. Meanwhile, with doomguards, I constantly have to go "okay what is the worst possible thing he could have, and would that pop me?" As for the Coldlight Oracle -- I need to play that eventually, because I gotta draw most of my deck, I know it's unlikely there'll be another turn where the warlock's at 9 cards, and I really don't want to draw you two cards as well if I can avoid it.
