Because you tried to 100% it? I can see that. I gave up on 100%ing a long, long time ago because modern games are just too massive to do that with. I imagine Brawl would take 200+ hours.

By far my biggest problem with the SSE is that it misses the whole point of why I wanted a lengthy singleplayer mode in Smash -- to spend time with various Nintendo characters and their worlds. Instead we get these weird, generic, hodgepodge levels filled with unrecognizable enemies and bland environments and the end result is a somewhat forgettable experience. Aren't there like 30 or so levels in the SSE? That would have been perfect to give each character in the game their own unique level. Imagine a Mario level where you play in a Galaxy-themed world (or better yet, imagine a multi-segmented Mario level that begins in a Super Mario Bros. environment, moves on to an SMW theme or something similar, and ends with Galaxy). Imagine a Luigi level with a Luigi's Mansion backdrop, and so on.

For the record, I enjoyed the SSE for what it was, but how much cooler would that have been?

Do you count "special messages" as part of 100%? They are essentially the equivalent of Achievements and one of them wants you to play 1,000,000 VS matches.

I feel like the backlash against SSE is mostly based on the hype machine going a little too far and then not delivering the unreal expectations people had but instead something just decent.

I enjoyed it a bunch myself, especially with a friend.

I'm like 25% through SSE and quite enjoying it so far. Not that the gameplay is the best, but this is what they SHOULD be doing--having the characters from disparate series interacting and teaming up the heroes to take on the villains team. It's the exact kind of fun that should be championed in a crossover series.

I didn't see this addressed, but it should be noted that Sakurai suffers from a type of tendinitis that causes him substantial pain whenever he moves his arm and has toughed it out in awful condition to get the smash games done, so to go through all that extra effort for something you love and that everyone loves, only to see some people bypass all that effort, would be very embittering I would imagine. I mean it's unavoidable in this day and age but I still personally don't think he's in the wrong to be upset that it happened.

Personally I think he should worry more about the people who did enjoy and appreciate his art than the people who upload it and just watch it. If youre a writer theres always gong to be some bozos who reads the last page first; its better not to worry about them.

That being said I am a little bit serious that him being upset about that artistically and getting paid are two different subjects for people with a lot of artistic pride

I don't even disagree with what Sakurai said, although he phrased it poorly. The SSE as a whole took a lot of development time and, to put it plainly, it wasn't well-received. The cutscenes were one of the big selling points and a lot of people did just watch them on the internet, so it's not like they especially influenced people's intention to buy the game. The effect would be even more pronounced in the current era of social media. The time spent on SSE could have been spent on more characters, items, mode...essentially refining the multiplayer (or 1 v 1) experience that people actually care about when buying a Smash game.

Then you look at Smash 4, which was simultaneously developed for two very different systems while still adding a large number of new characters, and you can easily see why Sakurai scrapped the SSE in exchange for freeing up development time for other things.

That glitch is banned in competitive. Meta Knight is the best because he's incredibly fast, has the best recovery in the game, and has a bunch of strong kill options for a character of his type. It's as simple as that. Snake is really good thank to his disjointed hitboxes and grenade silliness, but Meta Knight is clearly in a tier all on his own.

Best thing about the Subspace Emissary was The Runaway Guys playing through it.

As for Brawl itself, I played it a ton for a year following its release, and then I just lost interest and struggled to enjoy the game later on. Part of it is probably just Smash fatigue, but otherwise...I'm not one of those people who hates the game, but yeah in the end I turned out to have fonder memories of Melee.

I can definitely see myself playing this game endlessly on multiplayer if I wasn't 30 and my friends all didn't have wives. I'm sure it will be cool on the off-chance a bunch of us can actually get together though.

This is pretty damn cool. And if they bring this back for Smash 5, depending on if they are on the base game roster, we could see Ryu and Bayonetta (and a little less likely, maybe even Cloud) in this type of story.
