To be fair, that's more or less the mentality of every child I've known that was born in the last 10 years or so.

I know most of my friends' kids have toys, but they rarely seem overly interested in buying new ones, and spend about 90% of their free time watching videos on YouTube. I've seen zero evidence that the younger generations even remotely give a shit about toys the way Gen Xers and early Millennials did.

Ahh FuncoLand. I bought one game from them (well, my dad bought it for me), online because they didn't have stores here. Star Wars Episode 1 for PS1.

But yeah, I don't know why toys r us always overpriced. The last game I bought in store from them was Pokemon Sapphire for GBA because everywhere else was out. Online it was Smash Bros. Wii U cause you got a free amiibo.

I don't have an iphone or whatever, but fir years back then from the late 1980s to 1990s Toys R Us was expensive. Period.

Bikes, toys, videogames at Toys R Us the were always expensive.

Even the mall Kaybees store was worse than Toys R Us

They still did that. You could even look the price up on your phone and if a website had it cheaper they would price match it.

i dontI think my parents even bought me and my siblings anything from a Toys R Us store. Back in the day it was prety much from Kmart or whatever department store was around .

Then Kaybees came around for the mall but the prices were higher than frikkin Toys R Us.

the only cheap stuff I ever bought from the Kaybees toy store from the mall were the Terminator 2 movie trading cards and then some Star Wars Phantom Menace figures that were on clearance for 2 dollars little bit when the Phantom Menace movie was done being shown in theaters

Well, TRU was overpriced. They routinely sold products for 10-15% over the MSRP whereas online retailers for selling products for under the MSRP... which, more or less, was a large part of KB's problem.

And while I bought more from other retailers because they had better prices, a lot of TRU's issue probably did come from companies like Target and Wal-Mart expanding their toy selection so parents didn't need to travel to a dedicated toy store. Granted, the fact that TRU had the perception of costing more (because they charged more for the exact same product) likely discouraged some parents from making a special trip there.
