As someone who has never once contemplated suicide i would honestly not know how to help someone other than suggest they get help from someone more knowledgeable than myself,a professional of some kind.

It wouldn't be cruel or cold or uncaring, but because i honestly wouldn't know what to say. The fact that life is important and special and precious is so deeply ingrained that i would be at a loss to comprehend feeling otherwise.

Even when painful things happen your life is a gift to be treasured. It is not a pain from which to be spared.

If you are still having suicidal thoughts then i encourage you to seek help through some sort of program that is geared for that.

I've been in a similar situation before, but above all else, all you can do for her is encourage her to go seek therapy or get a diagnosis. It sucks, but just being there for her will not help in the long run, especially if she shows no signs of improvement. I know it hurts, and you don't want to see anything happen to her, but you can't force her to get help or get better. All you can do is try to convince her to find help. If she refuses help, then the best thing for you is probably to distance yourself. You need to think about yourself, especially if the situation seems hopeless. It isn't selfish to value yourself and your future if nothing will ever change.

It's not about them having depression, it's about them being someone you care about deeply who has expressly concerned that they don't think they would be alive if it wasn't for you... then abandoning them to die.
