Top notch imo, although I don't agree with sime of the hype.

I actually spoiled it for myself pretty thoroughly. Was under the impression that the game was a joke, so I watched the genocide route, and then the true pacifist ending, and a few other playthroughs of the game. Played the game myself after that just so I could say I did.

Fanbase is cancer, but on its own, it was pretty great, despite how short it was. Reminded me of Cave Story a bit, which is another great solo dev game.

It's probably my favorite game ever. It's got great music, lots of dogs, good dialogue, an interesting plot, and fresh gameplay. I actually go out of my way to avoid Undertale porn because I don't want the porn to detract from my enjoyment of the actual game.

Good game. Does a lot of things well, had some clever concepts, but I'm not the biggest fan of the gameplay.

I played it last year or so, went in pretty much blind, though aware of its notoriety and its terrible fanbase. I didn't let it influence me, though I'm sure they would crucify me for only considering it "Good" instead of "Great" or "the best thing ever".

Same opinion I had at the time. Feels like a retread of stuff I grew up with, but thats okay since it modernizes it for a new generation. Very clever stuff.

Good game, I think it was overrated too much and as a result made so many people hate the game.

Also the fanbase kinda dictating "NO UR SUPPOSED TO DO THIS" to new players really soured the experience for many.

Arguably the most overrated game of all time.

I picked it up around Black Friday for like 5 bucks on PS4. While the game isn't awful I couldn't even finish it. I got bored about five hours in since every fight felt the same and just forgot about it. In fact I haven't even thought about the game since then until this topic lol

Still one of my very favorite games. I'm still surprised that "lo-fi" games tend to hit me in the emotional center more often than newer ones. Great soundtrack, a couple chuckles here and there, interesting mechanics and a pretty good plot.

I'm glad I didn't spoil myself before playing it. It was memorable, and if a game manages to leave an impression a couple of years later, it's a rarity for me these days.

Like Kirby, the gameplay, the story, and the music get exponentially better at the end. The beginning is very dull indeed and tbh the first two bosses are pretty bad gameplay wise too.

It is annoying to be told to play a game blind, or to play a game a certain way. Bonus annoyance if the person recommending a game is super pushy. I know I've been responsible for turning a few people off of games before with my zeal.

they got really excited over the game and a lot of people brace at that and refuse to give it a chance, because sooo many people told them they should. you know. like adults.

but as a fan of the game, i'll tell you exactly the problem with the fanbase: it sucks at actually discussing the game. it's like with earthbound -- starmen.net would get an influx of theories for earthbound every time the game had a popularity surge. most of which did not pass the 'did this actually happen/did they actually say that in the game?' check.

I only played it for like 20 minutes before I put it down. Just didn't grab me.

i only played it cause it won that gamefaqs contest. at first i hated it for no reason because i thought it was just some meme that it even won. but decided to give it a chance a bit after the contest and fell in love with it. never could beat a certain boss although i got really close and if i was willing to put forth a solid hour in trying i could have done it.

i do plan to play through it again someday. probably end up playing through it a few times but definitely glad i gave it a chance.

i would go so far as to say that if you were to jump into any story discussion being held *right now*, it would be dominated by people who fill in blanks left and right. people who cite youtube and tumblr instead of undertale.exe, basically.

The only story discussion that Fire Emblem fans nowadays are only capable of is shipping characters and having 500 post discussions about character traits that have never been remotely expressed in game
