I think some fission occurs, but that's fine either way, the sun is far away.

Huge solar operations actually vaporize birds that fly over them.

What's interesting too is that a lot of the hippie protester types are vegan, but the amount of land needed to grow that amount of crops (if everyone went vegan) would destroy a lot more land.
