MWC, children are required by compulsory education laws to attend school from the age of six to the age of sixteen. Essentially, they are forced to attend school. If you then force them to attend school under the watch of teachers who are essentially armed guards, then you are subjecting them to cruel and unusual punishment, as they are being imprisoned for committing no crime.

But again, this already happens. Just not the teachers. Clearly armed guards isn't what makes it a prison.

Devil's advocate here. Arming teachers is a stupid idea, but this line of reasoning is really bullshit. Guns or no guns, a school isn't a prison.

Violates 5th Amendment (taking away liberty without due process), 13th Amendment (compulsory labor without a conviction for any crime) and 14th Amendment (equal protection). And as many have already pointed out, it is cruel and unusual punishment.

I think that is up to federal and state levels to decide.

I don't mind countries (who always post misleading stats on education) that make high school non-compulsory and more merit based.

But, children should go to school from a young age. I am fine with 5. And at least go to school until they are of an age they can understand abstract thinking.

5-14 maybe at the least. I am fine with the current system as is also.

Fining parents I think is kind of dumb after a certain student age. I think students should just be required to make up days missed in not reasonable excess and be automatically failed if they do not make them up. Rather a parent be fined only if a student under the age of 13 did not make up classes in addition to them being held back. Above age 13, I think the fault should lie on the student. Without reasonable reason they should have to make up the not reasonable excess. If they don't they are held back and their license is held back from them for say 6 months every year it happens.

I know parents whose child simply willfully skips and they do not know how to stop it and it falls back on them. That is fine up to a certain age, but at some age, it needs to transfer to the students responsibility.

I'd but not reasonable excess as days over 10% of the year missed without legitimate medical reasoning.

I think 18 missed days out of 180 with excuses for a reasonable amount is fine. Maybe 10 excused abscesses. 2 allowable misses without excuse per quarter for up to 8 a year.

THE HILL - Trump considering spy network to combat 'deep state' enemies: Intercept

The Trump White House is reportedly considering a proposal for a global, private spy network to counter 'deep state' enemies who want to undermine Trumps presidency, according to a report in The Intercept.

The proposals for the network were reportedly developed by Blackwater founder Erik Prince who is also the brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos as well as retired CIA officer John Maguire and Oliver North, who was heavily involved in the Iran-Contra scandal and was reportedly brought on board to sell the effort to the administration.

The spies would be off the books, sidestepping official U.S. intelligence agencies and would report directly to CIA Director Mike Pompeo, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials, the Intercept reported.

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/363308-trump-considering-global-spy-network-to-combat-deep-state-enemies

Article's from December, but this stinks to me after some changes since then.

Mainly:

1) Erik Prince was just revealed to be in the Trump Tower meeting from August 2016 (not the original "Trump Tower meeting" we're used to talking about from June 2016).

2) Oliver North became President of the NRA earlier this month at a time when we're learning more about how Russia's funded them.

Meanwhile, Mike Pompeo was voted to be the new Secretary of State and Gina Haspel has filled his former position at the CIA. I don't know much about John Maguire.
