The amount of polish in that game was staggering. Each weapon had utility outside of boss battles. The difficulty was reminiscent of 2 and 3 without being overbearing. The stages and enemies were unique yet nostalgic (as was the music).

2 and 3 will always be special because of how good they were for their time, but 9 took the best aspects from the franchise and combined them into a masterpiece.

10 I felt overdid it a bit. It did some things better than 9, but others worse.

Mega Man 9?

Yeah 9 tends to kill you just because it wants to at times. However I have to agree it's definitely one of the best classic titles if not the best in terms of flow and mechanics. Like all the games it does have flaws though. 4 is up there among the best as well. 3 is my personal favorite.
