It is really simple. Just post each time you beat a game throughout the year and the platform you played it on. Do not hesitate to add some discussion in regards to the games you or others beat.

At the bottom of this post is a link to a Google word doc that you are free to edit to immortalize your gaming accomplishments. Feel free to tinker with your color and font options, but do know that users are supposed to be in alphabetical order.

Oh shoot, decided to check it and noticed I had no progress. Because I have literally two games beaten this year so far. Geez.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon- Red Rescue Team (GBA)
Sonic Adventure 2 (Steam)

Are the two I've beaten this year so far. 2 games in half a year, geez... Wait. I might not have counted one yet.

Eh, I have it counted as beaten already... although I beat Red this year in HGSS. The second "beat it" point of that game. Won't count it though.

Quell Memento (Vita)
Now that was long overdue. Turned out I was pretty close to the end.

I LOVE Quell. I'm glad you were able to finish it. I cried a little when it was over. There wasn't really a story, but the journey of the old man was touching.

Dead Island - Definitive Edition (PC)

Pretty good. I think I'd still prefer L4D. Not so much the grinding was tedious but the fact that every quest even the sidequests were basically fetch quests.

Finally finished Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper (PC)

Misleading title really. It was more of a CSI version of events than any kind of direct encounter. I like how the game actually takes the historical facts seriously, and doesn't sensationalize the more controversial parts of the event such as the government coverup conspiracy and the lettters. It offered a more realistic progression of who might Jack be.

Sadly though, I would still prefer the previous game if I had to choose. This one while intriguing, had less integrated adventure gaming puzzles and more running around talking to people; which is to say not bad but I wasn't expecting it, not after the awesome time that was the previous game.

Also, I guess few can say that they've played 2 Jack the Ripper games in a single year.

Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World (GBA)

After a terrible 2D Mario platformer, it made sense to go back to one of the better ones. I went with the GBA port of SMW, knocking out a 96 exit run in a bit under three hours. This port is lackluster, but still a far better game than the abomination that was NSMB2.

Pokmon Rutile Ruby (3DS; Rom Hack)

It's ORAS, but with the difficulty turned up to 11. This game did make a few changes I didn't like, but it was overall a fair challenge. It's certainly the only time I'll ever breed and EV train before postgame.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin for PS3

The Hitman trilogy pack for PS2 were the final games that I beat on that system. It is only fitting that the HD trilogy pack for PS3 will likely be the final games I beat for that system.

The Japan levels, outside of the first, are still bad, and it took me about three hours to beat the final level on Professional difficulty, but it is still a great game. The map system for that trilogy is still probably my favorite in gaming.

Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (Game Boy Color)

Played this via 2DS XL
This was the only remaining game in the series I didn't play up until now.

You can choose between a Male or Female Commando. Their gameplay difference is exactly the same and is only aesthetic. Only difference between choosing one or the other is they both go through different levels in Area 6 and Area 9.

The graphics and art style to this game isn't very good IMO.
I looked past it and focused on the gameplay.

I like in some of the levels you can do a sniper sequence and if you are successful you get some Life out of it. The sniper sequences are also pretty graphic with the enemies getting shot at violently with blood spurting out. Surprised that got past an E Rating.

Swinging around is good as always with the bionic arm. Most of the boss battles are very simple and some of them do have gimmicks on how you have to take them down. New mechanic to the series is the ability to drop down thin platforms.

They reused the "Super Joe (this time called Commander Joe in this one) and resurrect the Albatross" plot once again for this one except it has something to do with aliens or something.

Overall I rank this a little low in the series and prefer the other games in the series. It's not a bad game by itself and it's still a good game to play through.

Dead Island: Riptide (PC)

Nice "expansion pack". It still had that horrible fetch quest progression but at least the backtracking hell was only isolated within the first third of the game. Another thing about the original I hated was that the premise was zombies invading a tropical island resort. So when you reached the city and everything after, it felt like it was no longer that. This one at least maintains some semblance of tropical island at least.

I've had a mild interest in that game. I am not a huge fan of the S.C.U.M.M engine's interface, so I have been waiting for the remasters of all these Lucas Arts games. I know Thimbleweed Park is a new game, but it uses the S.C.U.M.M interface.

Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island for XB1

What a strange game. I mean, it is very simplistic as a platformer with very light combat and puzzle elements. However, the game has practically no world-building, and the game has moments such as the main villain cracking jokes and fifteen seconds later, a different character has a nonchalant take on child abandonment.

Guns, Gore, and Cannoli 2 (PC)

Wow. This is the closest thing to a Metal Slug reboot I swear. The first game was about run and gun about mobsters and zombies. But this game adds Nazis into the mix, and even more impressive boss battles. It even feels like an homage to Metal Slug seeing as the final boss is a Multi-Stage UFO Boss Battle.

Life is Strange (PS3)

Been meaning to play this one for a while. Finally did and played the whole thing in two days I got so I to it.

Warning: major spoilers ahoy

I let Chloe die. It was clearly what she wanted given the alternative, and gave purpose to her character, arc, and life.

Kate was really something else though. I saw a lot of myself in that character and really empathized with her way more than I have most fictional characters that love empathized with.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (PC)

HOLY F. That was a ride. Momentarily sad that we're finally departing from the "campy classic" holmes in the last 3 games I played, and have now moved on to the "asshole holmes" of the modern era. This game significantly improves on its predecessors. No wonder it took 3 years since the last game to make. Graphics vastly improved. Gameplay elements improved. And those kickass credits.

It was definitely alot darker and introduced a villain that actually was a threat unlike the mysteries of the previous games. I also love how the game calls back to its predecessors by referencing things that have happened as if it wasn't ashamed that yes Sherlock did tangle with The Awakened, with Arsene Lupin, with Jack the Ripper.

It can only get better from here!

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

Really enjoyed this one. I hadn't played more than 10 or so chapters of any FE since the GBA games and I really appreciated the various simplifications that helped eliminate potential decision paralysis on my part (e.g. no children/caps on supports per unit/limited promotion items/weapon durability). I also no longer have the time or patience to restart a map three times because of my units dying, so casual mode was a plus.

Also great voice acting (in particular from Berkut) and really nice use of 3D.

I don't think I have the stomach to get all the hearts and strawberries so I'll call it a win on the main story, which was hellish enough. I love the feels and the metaphor, but I didn't expect the game to be straight up meat boy levels of pain.

Mass Effect: Andromeda (PS4)

Severely underrated! Was a great start to what looked like a promising new Mass Effect series, but now it looks like we're not gonna get any more of this for a while, if ever. The patches that fixed all the bad facial animations definitely helped immensely (I played it over the last half month or so, but I've seen clips from when the game was still unpatched. It's horrible)

That said, the game is very glitchy still and feels like it's a beta version of the game. Wish this series would continue though!

Resistance: Burning Skies (VITA)

Not underrated! This game is actually bad. It's functional, but the game is really short, multiplayer is entirely dead, and the single player is not good. Really lazy level design, an uninteresting story, one-dimensional main character, and weak attempts at emotion keep this from being nearly in the same league as the rest of the Resistance series.

Really more of the same, but a bigger better looking island and interesting bases that arent just "shoot everything that's red". I was getting bored halfway through until I played the DLC content which gave me a friggin lightning gun. As in, I can call lightning from the skies, and it was nigh rechargable. I would say it removed some of the challenge but really, who plays Just Cause for the challenge? You make your own stupid fun in this game especially with the tether system.

God of War (PS4)

Yep, it's worth the hype.

Thought it was starting a bit slow, but really there are a lot of questions brought up at the beginning and the game kinda lets the tension of those mysteries keep boiling for the perfect amount of time. The game has a very generous amount of content, is beautiful, has a very impassioned and heartful story, and features a pretty clean combat system. It's still God of War, but this was an impressive evolution that I didn't ever think would come to the series. Either way, it's welcome. I can't tell if I like this more or less than Uncharted 4 but they're both masterpieces of their consoles. They'll be the games that forever define the PS4 I think.

Oh. I just thought it was so obvious. I've never been so humiliated deep inside, expecting a huge payoff when I went through that bullshit Act 4. I was lucky enough to only have lost a fort thrice so other than the monotony of defending the same areas over and over, it was more or less just busy work.

I'm still more concerned about the scummy practices the game did, that every mechanic was "addictive" in a way that you had to use the market. And Act 4 was just a piece of that temptation.

Wow. I had to change the resolution to 640 everytime I loaded this up, but it was worth it. Damn fine horror adventure game and oldschool at that which means no jumpscares, no music. It's just you, the hotel, and fucking voices. It's one of those horror games where there's nothing in the rooms and you make up your own fear as you systematically case the place slowly, writing down anything important.

Done with the sequel as well Dark Fall II: Lights Out (PC)

I intended to play them in order but I got stuck on the first one so I just decided to play the 2nd one concurrently. This one feels alot more like Myst for being able to traverse between worlds. It's alot less clunky than the first game but also stupider. It starts as a haunted lighthouse in the 1900s, then suddenly you find yourself in 2004 as a tourist trap lighthouse. But then later on you find out that the source of the ghost was...bs.

Eh, it was still fun though. Very Myst-like and appreciated.
