Retro City Rampage for PC

I actually own and have played this for three systems, but I never made a concerted effort to actually beat it until a few days ago. I remember this game being hyped a little prior to its release and was deemed to be disappointing after it came out. It gets a little irritating at the end, and I am was never fully comfortable with shooting controls and mechanics, but I ultimately enjoyed myself.

Hollow Knight + 4 DLCs (PC)

When I finished this game last year, I could barely do the secret dungeon and so I never fought the true final boss. I was surprised coming back to it that it had gotten a little easier. And then of course, they added some other hard stuff. It was nice seeing this game constantly improved through its DLCs. To my understanding, the bosses added in were what the original Kickstarter stretch goals that weren't reached before.

Still my game of the year. So much love.

2064: Read Only Memories for PC

I gave away a spare key to this game about a month ago, which finally convinced me to play it.

It is an interesting story filled with some interesting, if underutilized, characters, but I wouldn't say that it was fun to play. That might sound weird given this is a point-and-click adventure, which is already limited in the gameplay department. However, 90s era LucasArts and Humongous Entertainment as well as 00s era Telltale managed to make some super fun games in that genre, so I don't know what to tell you. The extremely small amount of puzzles might have something to do with it.

Doki Doki Literature Club (PC)

Some people recommended me play this game. I knew nothing about it going in and weeellll..

When it started I was like "why am I playing this game". Then some Life is Strange vibes started to kick in and I felt like there was gonna be a twist coming up. There was definitely a twist. And it took a turn I didn't expect. Really neat game design and the execution was pretty cool.

SteamWorld Heist for PC

This one took me by surprise. The "Heist" part of its title is a misnomer, but this was a great turned-based tactical game.

122/123 rep stars (lost someone on the final boss and didn't bother aborting)
697 turns
7 mission failures (maybe four were "true" failures and the rest aborting due to missing out on full rep stars)

Mini Ghost for PC

I knocked this out last night in about two hours. I was kind of surprised that this game encouraged save scumming, but I eventually got into a rhythm to where saving every other room became second nature. This is apparently a prequel to a game that has been on my wishlist for a long time, so I should probably buy that soon.

South Park: The Stick of Truth (Switch)
Such a great game. Very funny, I couldn't stop laughing, which is just what I needed in my life right now. I also loved all the little bits of South Park history scattered throughout, they really went to town making this one for the fans. The music was especially great. The gameplay took me a bit to get the hang of but once I did I flew through the game. Going in my brother described it to me as, "Paper Mario but South Park" and that's EXACTLY what it was. It was not only a great RPG but also an excellent parody of the genre. I totally called Clyde being the villain, I mean, other than Kenny but I was not expecting Chef and shouted out loud when he showed up. Oh, and it looks like it's gonna let me keep playing post-game, which is great because there were a lot of sidequests I never finished (I couldn't even figure out how to get into U-Storage)

If I have ONE complaint it's that I really hated how other characters would start complaining if you took more than three tenths of a second to decide what to do. Like sometimes it actually got REALLY fucking annoying.

Can't decide if I want to jump right into Fractured But Whole or play something else in between so I have more great South Park later. Maybe saving the sidequest stuff for later will alleviate that burden.

Oh and since I forgot to mention it in my initial post, Stan was by far the best buddy. I used him almost exclusively once he joined my party. I rarely used anyone else and literally never used Cartman once.

I say this as a very offensive-heavy RPG player who likes to crush enemies with the most powerful attacks as quickly as possible.

I rarely used Stan or Cartman. I used Butters like 60% of time, the paraplegic with the speech impediment 35%, and everyone else the remaining 5% just to give them a test run.

Far Cry 5 (PC)

Them Duck Dynasty boys are at it again!

Okay seriously, a vast improvement from the slowly deteriorating formula. While I kinda hate the achievement based perk system, it was a refreshing mechanic that didn't try to clone the last 3.5 games. I never would have thought that rural Montana was such a fun place to play in and I think one of the biggest improvements is how everything looks much less gamey; that is to say the enemies no longer dress like videogame enemies, the outposts are no longer generic buildings, and since everything is rural, there is little in the way of elevated terrain making the outpost takedowns much more satisfying as you can't just camp snipe your way to victory.

The ending sucks though. Both of them. Game Design 101 like why put your player character through all that crap when it doesn't matter anyway in the end.

Orwell: Keeping An Eye On You for PC

Knocked this out in about 3-4 hours across two days. While the presentation does have some design issues (unlike Her Story, it is very hard to keep track of all the different info and sources, and you have to make decisions on top of that), but the aesthetics portion of the presentation are top-notch and easily sucked me in.

Super Time Force Ultra for PC

I have absolutely no intentions of going back to get all the medals/collectibles, but it was a blast that I would highly recommend! I also really appreciated its silly humor, especially at the end when they used over a dozen expressions/idioms that contain the word "time" in it.

Despite the hectic nature of having to rewind time to take care of enemies and obstacles before the deadline, everything is pretty straightforward, but I was hung up on the final boss forever, and I have two recommendations that makes things so much easier:

1. Use Lou Don Jim for everything with the robot except the head to ensure that you have at least 20-25 seconds for the final phase.
2. Use Repeatski for the final phase or you will likely run out of time or even rewinds.

Call of Duty (PC)

Yeah. The original. My next COD conquest is gonna be WWII so I might as well go back and finish the classics that I never did back in highschool. To be honest, it holds up really well. The 90s shooter elements such as the non-regenerating health and the lack of a sprint key felt awkward at first but they gave the game more of its original challenge. I even on instinct held the shift key to "hold my breath" during sniper shootouts. I love the setpieces this game has. I mean, every COD has always had good setpieces but this stood the test of time for sure.

Looking forward to finishing the rest of em. Don't know if I'll try World at War.

Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter for PC

The exceedingly long waves of enemies got obnoxious after awhile, prompting me to change the difficulty to easy so I wouldn't lose interest. That being said, I like games that take pages from the old Doom and Wolfenstein games.

I was actually supposed to beat this game a month ago, but I guess there's a common glitch that freezes the final boss fight, and I had to wait until today to be able to validate the game files to fix it.

So the one thing I didn't get about Coco was... when Miguel called Dante a good spirit guide did he essentially kill him? Because it seemed like Dante got trapped in the land of the muertos and can only return to the world of the living on Dia de las Muertos along with Pepita. Before that he was just an average stray Mexican hairless no? Miguel: mistaken murderer or heartless hatecrime?
