I just beat a game for the first time in awhile!

Hollow Knight

Decent Metroidvania, though I felt quite a few elements were more annoying than they needed to be (seriously mapping shouldn't be that hard).

Stikbold! - A Dodgeball Adventure for PC

What a goofy-ass game. I can forgive some of the BS it throws at you and having to replay a level close to 10 times when I can throw jellyfish at lifeguards, beehives at hippies, and steal a water float from a child all in the name of love!

Beat it a while ago might go back and try it on Give Me God Of War difficulty.

Tales of Berseria (PC)

So much happier with this Tales game than Zestiria. Combat felt better, story was solid, music was good, and the cast was great. I'm going to 100% it but that requires more time to do and the worst part of the game were the final dungeon slog and a couple bosses which weren't actually weak to what they were stated to be weak too (wound up having to restart a boss because of a game over when it used Explosion 6 times in a minute with no cooldown in between it's casts)

Can't think of any other games I've beaten this year unless they weren't entirely memorable.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)

Just need to collect the 3 pre-darklight Boos and it's basically done. That was a harder game than I expected, which is great. But it did kind of got annoyingly padded in the last 2 mansions.

Sonic Mania (PC)

I love it! Nostalgia and all that. I hate to recommend it to beginner sonic fans though. The levels feel like more difficult remixes of the originals. I'd suggest playing those classics first.

Awesome soundtrack! And a complete mystery why the Ice Cap Zone once again gets the remake shaft.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm (PS4) - Platinum'd

I loved Life is Strange so I just had to play Before the Storm too. Wasn't the same as the original but it was still really nice to go back into that world and see some of the characters again.

I also went and played Captain Spirit too, and I'm officially hyped for Life is Strange 2.

VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action for PC

For a game(?) where 75% of it consists of expositional world-building, I really liked this a lot. I was a fan of the varied characters (both in terms of personalities and game usage) and the non-expositional dialogue. I realize that world-building had to be roughly 100% through exposition in this game, but it's still not my favorite way to do so.

Blaster Master Zero (3DS)

I beat the game with both the Normal and True Ending.
This was a pretty good remake and a lot of fun.

At some point I'll replay the game 4 more times as Shovel Knight, Shantae, Gunvolt and Ekoro.

I beat South Park the Stick of Truth a week or so ago

It was a lot of fun, very funny, nice simple battle system, nice short length!

I think some of the humour possibly went too far (dun dun dunnn) for my tastes, it became almost too gross-out. I don't think they did a lot of stuff that was significantly worse than in the show, but I think because there was a lot of it crammed into a 10-15 hour game rather than a 20 minute show it was more...concentrated.

So I laughed but there were a couple of times I almost stopped enjoying it.

Also it felt like the main storyline tried to cram in too many references. I wasn't against the references in general, but they began to feel shoe-horned into the main story.

But, overall, great fun. Playing FBH now.

I always hated that rectal dungeon in the stick of truth, especially when you find the bird. I thought that was when it went too far

Having only watched a handful of episodes of the show, I was actually okay with the gross-out humor in the game despite generally disliking that comedic style.

Short beat-em-up, made short mainly by not being that tough on normal, and infinite continues. I'd consider replaying for more characters and just getting better at it. The controls are kind of hard but it's fun.

Full Throttle Remastered (VITA)

Got some new VITA games during this most recent PSN sale and this was the shortest/easiest to platinum. I was on vacation when I started it so I just played parts of it here and there. Some clever dialogue. Way too short. But still good I suppose.

Really nothing special as far as the old point & click adventure games go.

At first I was a little disappointed, but as the game went along, I ended up being very glad that I spent $25 on it on Kickstarter.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

Great game, loved it all the way through. I went into it seeing it as more of an RPG than a Turn Based Strategy game, and that helped a lot to enjoy the gameplay. The maps weren't great usually, but powering up my army was fun and made sense in the story. Which, by the way, was presented really well and had me hooked.

This would be better if I had a controller that also wasn't my screen. Trying to play a VITA game with gyro tilt controls just doesn't work.

Even if I played this on PS3 or PS4 though, the game still isn't very fun.

Iconoclasts (PC)
I had a really good time with this game and only 4 of the bosses actually gave me trouble. The final 2 stages were my least favorite out of the bunch though considering they either had no challenge or had tiny rooms filled with gimmick enemies, neither had any puzzles which were enjoyable throughout the game. I managed to get a 53% complete on my first run through for treasures which I know where most of them probably are and I'm looking forward to actually 100% it.

70% Completion (28 Hourglasses). Someday I'll finish it, but The horror aspect of Queen Vanessa and a couple platforming things regarding The Moon (Battle of the Birds Time Warp) and Alpine Heights kept me from really progressing towards that now.

I had no idea that the point of the game was to acquire 50+% of the town's shares until roughly 75% into the game. Luckily, I adjusted to win in time.

I didn't really enjoy the first 5-6 hours I spent with it, mostly due to what I thought was a lackluster starting area and the story not hooking me in, but after the world opened up and the story got more interesting, I loved it. Ended up being one of the better games I've played in awhile. The combat felt really good for the most part. Fighting human enemies wasn't anything new but the dynamic with the machines and finding different ways to expose weaknesses and take them down was incredibly satisfying.

I did all of the side-quests and found all the collectibles on my way to the platinum. Very little of the non-story stuff felt skippable, and I enjoyed going through it all. The plotlines on some of the side-quests weren't all that interesting, but the gameplay more than made up for it. I didn't do any of the Frozen Wilds stuff just because I felt like I was done after getting the platinum and finishing the story, and there are other games I want to play, but it's definitely something I'd like to check out in the future.
