Papo & Yo for PC

Seeing someone else recently beat this got me motivated to finally wrap this up. It's extremely janky, and I experienced multiple bugs that forced me to reload my file, but I still have mostly positive feelings toward this.

It was solid without really blowing me away. 7/10.

I liked the story, the puzzles and the atmosphere. The dilemma at the end wasn't an easy one for me, really got me thinking on what i'd actually do in a situation like that. I really liked how the story was told through the Watchers/the woman. Though, i didn't really understand how the crew on the ship all died. Apparently it was by the Watchers, but i didn't get "how" the Watchers managed to do that.

i did like it, but i'm in no rush to go back to it to get more of the secret terminals (only found the 5th one), or see how the other ending plays out i chose to stay on the planet.

Princess Remedy 2: In A Heap of Trouble for PC

Loved going through the first one last year and the same goes for this unnecessary sequel! If they made ten more games, I would probably buy them all.

I finished with 100% completion in 58:29. I should check to see how that time compares to my similar run with the first game.

Strikey Sisters for PC

Much like Papo & Yo, seeing someone beat this fairly recent motivated me to wrap this up. As far as vertical Breakout games go, I definitely recommend Aliens Go Home Run more, but this game is still vastly superior to the likes of Wizorb.

It is very forgiving in general but far from a cake walk. I also like how multifaceted it is. I wouldn't call it deep, but there's a lot going on there in any given stage despite its singular objective.

Ittle Dew 2 (PC)

Severely underrated Zelda clone. This is a must have for puzzlers. I love how they improved everything from the original, even adding secret dungeons and secret secret postgame content dungeons using unorthodox clues and environmental design that something just isn't right about the island. Also love the final final true secret boss That Guy (from Princess Remedy)

The Spectrum Retreat (PC)

Meh. It was okay. What is up with all these Portal clones. I think the main problem is, they try so hard to make puzzling deep and entertaining in a way Portal's narrative style does it, but it never compares. I only powered through it because I was almost done with it by the time the monotony began to set in. At the very least it wasn't as boring as The Turing Test.

Owlboy (PC)

Finally. This has been on my desktop for 2 years now. I don't dislike it. The graphics are amazing, the story and dialogue very well-written. And the mechanics are very unique, especially the boss fights. I think what bogged this game down for me despite its short length is how the game cannot decide if it wants to be an openworld metroidvania or a linear action platformer. I remember several moments where I just don't know where to go and what to do. And it has a sidequests of sorts that invites backtracking and yet there is no teleport system in sight. Those are minor gripes though.

I think what I especially like is the writing. They didn't do the checklist of cliches a plot like this would've had. It goes off a few rails and it never gets dull. You can really feel each character's stake and mood, even the mute protagonist himself appears sympathetic. Truly a beautiful experience for me.

I'll always remember this as the perfect game to show to my parents. It's pretty, not too violent, draws on folklore and has documentary segments sprinkled throughout. They have effectively no interest in games overall. I liked it too.

WarioWare Gold (3DS)
Well it's good, and the use of all the control schemes suits the series' spirit of chaos. That chaos is best on your first run, though, and I've yet to determine if it can dethrone Twisted! as my favorite. Probably not, given that it's sort of an anthology title.

God of War (PS4) - Platinum'd

Finally got around to platinumming this game. Overall great game, had a blast playing it and the story was actually really great, especially for a God of War game.

I normally play games on the hardest difficulty and I beat the other games in the series on hard as well so I figuerd I'd start on Give me God of War difficulty. Man that was super tough. Managed to get through the game slowly as I got used to the mechanics, but then Sigrun gave me so much trouble.

Literally one of the hardest encounters I've played. You essentially have to play perfectly for like ten minutes straight and it was so demanding to get the mechanics down. Plus your timings have to be incredible too so it just took me a long time to beat. When I finally got it done.. man that felt good. Enjoyed this game a lot but I'm psyched to not have to play it for a while haha.

It's absolutely a rough series tonally in general, so I felt okay about it. I tend to super-complete games and get 'perfect' endings on first playthrough, so it was kind of nice to mess one up

Oh

I played and finished Shadow of the Colossus for PS4

I forgot how great that game was. It was still amazing but more than anything it gave me appreciation for the original technical feat. I have absolutely no earthly idea how they got Colossus 13 onto a PS2. Outstanding. It didn't feel small or primitive on the console. What a game.

Also finished South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Really enjoyed both games, think I preferred FBH because I like Super Heroes more than elves and what have you and the battle system was more interesting. Using so many characters at once in battle was better. The last hour being completely nuts was fun too. I was really pleased with what they did with the license. Probably my favourites licensed console games in...well, god. A long time.
