So we can't trade players with each other?

Also the veterans won't be doing any of the things that garner points, except for maybe Have/Have Not competitions. I feel like there should be other options based on what they can actually do, otherwise drafting them won't really accomplish much of anything.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (via Wii U)
Breath of the Wild had an unusually great premise for a Zelda game. This does too. It also does something with it, giving us some of the best 3D action-adventure dungeons and a life-filled, yet rather bleak world. The Shenmue-style time system has its downsides (when you just have to wait) but overall it's an excellent game.

Party Hard 2 (PC)

I wanted to like this game. The first one was a blast. But I guess like every indie sequel, they just had to try and make it something more. The game itself was okay, it was more of the same really but better looking and had more to do. My main gripe is the story which was jumbled and tried really hard to be Hotline Miami, which is incidentally almost the same as this game except there is emphasis on stealth. I would still play this over the first one I suppose.

Kung Fu Master (Game Boy)

A Game Boy version of Kung Fu. Different setting, new bosses, same controls. Nice variety in the level design. There's a new move you can also do that is really good: a back flip kick and you can also throw bombs (?!)

Has been in my backlog for a LONG time, but finally beat it. Quite fun, but I couldn't help but think "I could be playing Fire Emblem right now" throughout every session. FE is the same, just better/more QOL stuff.

Do you have any tips for Venom? I started playing this last night, and I pretty much just use Holly and Aubergine for non-boss levels, but the boss levels have very little margin for error, so I feel forced to use a character with a high rate of fire and DPS. The closest I have come was with Cactus as I made it to its final form before running out time.

I remember being stuck on Venom for a while but I don't actually remember what made my winning attempt the winning attempt. I had used Starch for the majority of the game but for the final 2 zones and final bosses I did go back to Cactus. I'd say be aggressive, try to grab Shutdowns whenever possible and make good use of temporary invulnerability when switching weapons.

It might also help to check out TrueAchievements or YT for videos. Most of them are S+ videos which you don't need to do of course but it might give you a visual on things to focus on.

I will try and see if I can be patient to wait for a specific kind of powerup. Something tells me that time constraints and constant barrage of attacks will make that a fool's errand.

I understand, it's very stressful to wait for something to pop-up. Shutdown is just overall the most useful, but something like Haste doesn't really do anything for you except the little bit of healing it gives (iirc).

But it's good practice because you really don't want to waste your time with any other powerup in the final boss fight!

No, it only makes you move faster, draws stuff to you and absorbs every third hit of damage or something. Checking it now it's actually Shutdown that heals you.

Accelerate might be useful against Venom because you need to move around the map to hit targets, but I've generally stuck with Shutdown and Firepower.

Raiden II (PSX)

Underrated shmup. This one has a very special attachment from my childhood. It's probably the one with my favorite chiptunes. Also love the attention to detail and the destructiveness of the environment.

But boy is it hard.

Also to my surprise, I can't believe the people behind this are still alive making shmups for the PS4!

Assassin's Creed: Origins + All DLCs (PC)

Egypt. Is. Beautiful.

Granted, nothing will ever replicate Paris' attention to detail in Unity, but I think this game officially dethrones Watch_Dogs 2 for best open world map. That said, the grindy RPG system is a bit of a hit and miss. Like, I enjoy it now but. What if I wanna speedrun or cut to the main story itself? It's flawed in its own way and I wish I can hate this game but it lures me with the aesthetic and the history porn (the discovery tour is a real joy).

Now I'm looking at Odyssey and thinking it's never gonna be the same is it? Sure, Ubi took 3-4 years to make this game, but the old AC is dead. Now it's the dawn of a new kind of AC and I'm not exactly sure I love it. I'm lured by the open worlds like I said, but beneath it I can feel the deception. Part of me wishes the franchise wasn't as big so that it could still watch itself with a chance to fail.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China (PC)

As beautiful as Egypt is, I really do miss being a stealthy assassin so I went and just got this game trilogy instead while I wait for all of Odessey's DLCs to release. Initially I did dismiss them as unnecessary because I've played other sidestories before like Liberation and Rogue and they suck. But Chronicles: China was okay. Decent. If anything, it echoed the old AC that Ubisoft's now forgotten about. And it actually penalized you for forgoing stealth.

Hope the next 2 are good as well.

1979: Black Revolution for PC

Choices I suppose:
1. Revolutions are sacrificial
2. Didn't throw rocks at rally
3. Accused Savid of being the mole
4. Defiant during interrogation
5. Saved Hossein over Ali

I have mixed feelings. Sure, it was a character-driven game that shed some light on Iranian culture (I personally found some family dynamics to be fascinating), but I was under the impression that the game was supposed to bring further awareness to the historical socio-political climate of 1970s Iran. I never felt that it did enough to enlighten the audience of what that was like for native Iranians.

I can forgive the technical shortcomings, but there were many plot holes and some laughably bad scenarios. How can one take the scene where you fight the goon in the old movie theater seriously at any level? Later on in that same area, you were forced to tell Abbas who you thought the mole was among a half dozen or so characters that said two lines before. What's up with that?

Still, I was invested in it from start to finish, and the vocal performances sounded great to me.

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India (PC)

Well, I'm not disappointed. The stealth is a bit better. But the story is at best a fan-service. If you haven't read the tie-in materials then you'll feel nothing for these people. I like it. The graphical style has changed to a colorful indian thingie contrast to the droll brush strokes of ancient China. And the level difficulty has increased, ranging from Now That's a Challenge to Are You F*** Kidding Me.
