Man, Cyrus' Chapter 2 is really short and simple. Honestly they've all been simple, but that one especially so.

Well it was the last of my primary team's Chapter 2s, so now to start their Chapter 3s. The team is level 30-32 and Tressa's Chapter 3 is recommended at 34, so I'll go there next. The stories really aren't anything too fabulous, though Cyrus' took an interesting turn. Tressa's was cute enough, and Therion's was okay. Ophilia's was boring.

Oooh, are you doing four characters and then another set of 4 from low level? I hadn't though of doing that - that might be neat! I feel like I'd rather have a bunch of characters to experiment with party structure though... but I don't know how annoying it will be to keep everyone up to speed.

Yeah. Characters don't gain exp outside of the party, so you'll always be playing catch up with someone, and you can't remove your main until you complete their story, so even if you rotate and try to keep everyone even, your main's just going to get overleveled anyway. 4 and 4 just feels like it works better to me.

While exploring I found a nice old lady from Riverford that has a 7* power rating with a Dark spell that hits all enemies three times. Good stuff. Surprised I could guide someone that strong at only level 29.

Finished my first Chapter 3 and ahh the routes keep leveling up, lol. Went up by five or so after I did four Chapter 2s and now they've gone up another five. Good thing for fast travel or my secondary team would have trouble getting to their own Chapter 2 towns.

Who you start with has to stay in your party until you complete their story. Other than that, it really doesn't matter.

The person you start with is stuck in your party until you complete their entire story, but ultimately it doesn't matter because you can see and do everything in one playthrough with little problem.

You go back and forth doing all the stories in whatever order you see fit. As in, H'aanit Chapter 1 -> Ophilia Chapter 1 -> other Chapter 1s, or you could start a Chapter 2 story if you want, but there's a steep level jump from 1 to 2.

You do a character's chapter 1 -> recruit the next character and do their chapter 1 -> move on until you've done all 8 chapter 1s, than start chapter 2s, normally.

Technically you could do a character's whole story without recruiting others, but it'd be insanely grindy.

Ophilia and H'aanit are right next to each other so it'll be easy to recruit one after starting with the other. I'd recommend starting with Ophilia and moving counter-clockwise, personally.

I feel like I'm playing the game wrong. Super early game Ophilia and Cyrus spoilers: I started with Ophilia, beat the flame boss, and then was told to go to someplace, but I went in the other direction. I got Cyrus and did his part of the story until he was forced to leave town. I decided I might as well keep going in this direction, so I'm headed for Tressa's town next, although I feel like I'm getting further away from where Ophilia and Cyrus want to go lol. Did I complete their "chapter 1" or am I now doing two "chapter 1s" simultaneously?

Nah you're doing it right. Once you're able to leave, you completed their chapter 1. Where they're going to next is their Chapter 2, which you are going to be very underleveled for.

You can't leave a chapter 1 until you finish it, so yeah, you're fine.

I like everyone to some degree so far but Cyrus and Tressa definitely stand out as really good characters at first blush. Very happy I just happened to pick Cyrus as my main going in blank.

I saw my first 9999 just now with Therion's divine skill. He was level 40. Granted Cyrus has done over 12000 damage from his two-hit spells numerous times, but it's still nice to see those nines.

Well I've finished my first four Chapter 3s. In terms of how interesting their stories have been so far, I'd rank them Cyrus > Therion > Ophilia > Tressa.

I'm level 42, so still a little under the recommended level for Chapter 4s, but I'm sure it's fine.

I also want to say I appreciate seeing the progression of the regional monsters as the areas get more dangerous. It's just a neat touch seeing them slowly look more imposing before all of sudden you see the "king" version show up and it's way more badass, lol. The progression of the egg monster in the Clifflands is cool too.

Grr, was doing pretty good against the Runemaster subclass boss but when it got under half health it did a thing and killed me. It surrounded itself in an aura, so I thought okay gotta break it right away, but then I broke it (not easy given its weaknesses and my team structure and its 9 shields), the aura stayed up and then I died two turns later.

It occurs to me there's a tactic I probably could've used that might've cheesed it a bit, but I'll just try again later.

I feel like the boss of the Shadow over the Sands (or whatever) sidequest was tougher than the danger level 40 the dungeon suggested. Really nice reward though.

So, thoughts going into these Chapter 4s.

Cyrus: Was pretty clear from the beginning the book was going to be used for some nefarious plots, but I didn't think it would be the Headmaster behind it. I was kinda thinking it would tie into the same people behind Ophilia's plot, but I guess Yvon could've been one of them, though. After the second demo people thought the cloaked figure following him was one of the Crows from Primrose's story, but nope lol.

Ophilia: Started out more boring than I expected given the religious lore backstory stuff, but Chapter 3 steered it around back to what I was hoping for. Was kinda lame the bosses there were just some random mooks. Ophilia herself is meh, though. Like she's kinda too goody goody, and her Chapter 2 and 3 really didn't have any kind of development for her. She's just nice and does nice things and is doing just swell on her quest. Woo. Mattias is probably the villain, lol.

Cyrus: I'm satisfied with where it's going. Of course the old friend would be involved somewhere. I like the conversations at the end with Cordelia and Heathcote. I also liked that which person you chose to steal from in Chapter 3 slightly affected how the next scenes played out, so I saved and did all three, but then I was disappointed when the rarest steal didn't end up with something cooler. Hoping the dragonstones are being sold to the evil religion people to tie things together, but not necessarily expecting something so grand.

Tressa: I had no expectations for what her story would be, so I can't be disappointed or anything. Her Chapter 2 was cute with Ali, but I found her Chapter 3 to be boring, as I don't care about the Captain guy. But I will say I got more gay vibes from him and Baltazar's relationship than people are getting from Alfyn/Zeph. The erudite she just uncovered probably has magical properties or something and now she'll be sought after by evil people next chapter. She's like the character on an ensemble TV show cast who's usually doing her own filler (casual-friendly) plots with very little ties to the main plot but then somewhere near the end of the season she gets dragged into it and it's kinda jarring because it's not her usual thing.

I think I'll go in order of Cyrus, Tressa, Therion, Ophilia for their Chapter 4s.

I tackled my first Chapter 2, H'annit's, because it was the closest one to the last character I recruited (Tressa). It also happened to be technically the "most difficult" based on suggested level. It was actually, for me, literally the perfect level of challenge. Only my main was the recommended level and everyone else began the chapter 7-10 levels behind. It was tough, and the lord of the forest ate up all of my items, and it took probably half an hour longer than it should have, but I beat it and I am satisfied.

Finished Cyrus' story. Satisfying enough conclusion. Liked that there was definite setup for what comes at the very end. Also liked that a second Elemental Augmenter became available afterwards, lol.
