Sometimes, you'll hear video game reviewers or just ordinary gamers talk about how a certain game has a "steep learning curve." Is this fine by you, or does it deter you from buying a game?
Personally, if I hear that a lot about a game, it really puts a line in the sand for me. Am I super confident that I'll enjoy the game enough to play it for hours and hours and hours to learn its nuances, or is it possible that I'll end up quitting because the game isn't that fun for me? I won't accept a good game with a steep learning curve. It needs to at least be a great game. I think it's a tough question to answer. I mean, even The Sims has a steep learning curve when you consider all of the disparate interfaces you need to learn. And almost anything that isn't Hidden Object games have a steep learning curve when you're not familiar with the conventions.

Steep learning curve is fine if the information is presented in a way thats not overwhelming.

I'd say no because it totally depends on the game.

Maybe. But that would probably be for something I'd have no interest in playing in the first place like Factorio. CK2 is fun once you learn how to play it correctly.

I can't say it's a problem. Although I do prefer games that are easy to play but difficult to master. That way if I want to go in depth with the game the options are there.

Easy to play, hard to master is fun. The steep learning curve should be for the higher-end of playing. I should be able to have fun and win with a good amount of effort, but to really thrive and master it should take time. ... Copied to Clipboard!
