It is insinuating that the Democratic party is positioned so that they will automatically vote more for a candidate that is not white over white and that trotting out a white male candidate automatically is a disadvantage just because of being white and male.

Hence, if Hillary Clinton was exactly the same but black that she would have gotten more votes from her party simply by being that race. And of Hillary Clinton was exactly the same but male, she would have gotten less votes.

It is an implied diatribe against the state of the Democratic party.

The mistake you're making is assuming that race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. are not important to peoples' identities.

The problem with saying that race shouldn't matter is that it does. And not always in a negative manner.

We are in complete agreement that people shouldn't be judged arbitrarily according to these identifiers, but these identifiers are important, mostly to the people they identify. A black kid cares that he is black. It is a part of who he is. Just like sexuality, religion, etc...

We can acknowledge this while also being against discrimination.

I think the greatest television decision of all time was deciding not to kill off Boyd Crowder in the Justified pilot. The entirety of the show revolves around the Boyd/Raylan dynamic. Without Boyd, it's possible the show would have been nothing more than a mediocre case of the week ordeal.
