In twenty years, I will be able to play any of the games aside from those two. The servers will go down when people inevitably stop playing, and then the games will essentially cease to exist. If there is no online community, then there is no way to play.

So, basically, there will be two games in the numbered series that are literally unplayable. Im not saying they shouldnt have made online games, because FF14 has lots of fans still, but it was stupid to give them numbers in the series.

I mean, I guess, but there are plenty of games that are exceedingly difficult to get now, especially without foreign copies, so it's not like all series everywhere are perfectly preserved for future generations.

they are remaking 11 already. Sure they will probably do same with 14 or convert it into offline game

I felt betrayed, tbh. I used to be proud to say that I had played every game in the series, but I didnt want to pay money to compete online in an MMO.

I highly doubt that there are many people playing. Besides, do you see the community being active in twenty years? Theyll make another one that is better than 14 and the two will become obsolete.

And the core xi playerbase has remained static since about 6 months after xiv ARR launched. Launch xiv being such a mess made it not harm the xi numbers very much.

Even if there are still people playing it, they will eventually move onto a new game. If I decide that I want to play FF2, I can pay to download it and thats not going anywhere.

What happened with FFXIVs launch? I thought people were crazy about that one.

I agree. I felt the same way the day 11 was released. I was pissed tbh, I was expecting a traditional JRPG like 10 but instead I got some online shit I couldn't even play because I had crap internet. I might have still been on dial up.

Fair enough about the betrayed part but I disagree. 11 captured all the best parts of FF and was an experience like nothing else.

I still pride myself on being able to say that too but I feel like 11 only enhanced that. 11 was a brutal game but the community was one of the top three I've ever came across and being in that world was one of the best experiences I've had with an FF.

The original everquest is still playable. Safe to say both 11 and 14 will still be playable in some form for the rest of our lifetimes.

FF 11 is actually only on computers nowadays. They discontinued PS2/XBOX support a few years ago. Most of the players were on the PC to start with, so subscriber numbers actually stayed pretty consistent.

World of Warcraft though I bet will stay up for a damn long time. I bet even after the final expansion they keep it up for years after still

Its the same thing with that Star Wars game. Nobody wants online-only games. It gives the edge to people who get all the DLC, and it means that players who pay the shelf price cannot fairly compete if they dont want to PAY more money. Many of these games also have monthly/yearly fees to play.

Isnt $60 enough? When will these people stop?

except that playing it later years down the line is always cheaper because all the expacs are bundled together, and you aren't being gated by time for the next update (which translates into sub fee $)
