When will this purge ever stop harassing me??? lol
Anyway... we'll kick off here from where we left off as usual.
Hello and Welcome!
You have arrived to my 2nd "Ranks 1,000+" project and this time around instead of B8 users we will be tackling 1,300 songs from the last 5 decades.
Just a couple of notes about the list: -This ranking is almost entirely subjective. Please do not engage in a debate with me about whether this list qualifies as a legit "Best of" list. This is Not a ranking to determine the "best" based on record numbers or sales statistics etc.
This is purely a collection of tunes that are most appealing to my personal interests in music found within the amount of time I spent on research (with 300 nominations included). When the ranking is over you are more than welcome to reference any tunes that I did not include. I'm always down for great music and who knows, it is entirely possible that I will have simply overlooked some stuff that should be here. I listened to more than 5,000+ songs over the course of about 13 months or so, so I hope that was enough ground covered to at least offer some satiability. I have personally enjoyed the research either way.
---There are 260 songs representing each of the chosen decades. (70's, 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's)
----Yes I know the current decade has not yet completed but we are doing this anyway. Tbh there was sooooooo much terrible music this decade that I doubt we'll get anything much better than what we got right here. If I'm wrong, it doesn't matter because I don't want to sift through any more of this "Just Dance" infested generation.lol
Why didn't I include the 60's? Simple, because I'm not confident I could have pulled 200 songs from that decade and also I would have known immediately what the #1 song would have been for this ranking.
So Instead... I present that song as this topic's Theme Song:
(...I really don't know why I favor this tune over everything else but every time I hear it I get a special kind of goosebumps.)
Paint It Black / The Rolling Stones / 1966 [10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3] = 72.1 = 10.3
The Rollout I will be dropping you tunes in a couple ways here. Each song will be ranked out of total 1,300 and top 260 from their decade. There will be several statistics included in an ongoing update. There will also be a special ongoing update displaying the Top ranked songs in every genre. *Genres were selected either by research or best fitting based on my experience.
The Nominator Challenge: Some of you have submitted Nominations. You will receive an update in topic whenever one of a user's nominations gets ranked. You will collect a Sum of points equivalent to the Sum of every placement on your list of nominations. The Larger this number, the lower you will place in the finals. The user who has earned the smallest score in the finals will have made the best nominations and be called Winner of the Nominator Challenge. (This is a Bonus game I play in most of my rankings.) ***At the start of this there are 2 Unclaimed Bots (#1 and #3). Anyone who wishes to claim a bot may do so in topic. First come, first serve.***
The Topic Discussion rules Be Friendly, Be Respectful and Be Appropriate!
I'm always cool with off topic posting as long as it stays friendly. With my Bi-polar I am sometimes easily triggered by unfriendly disputes and would like this space to be as free from that kind of stress as possible. Thank You
So, enjoy and get settled in for the ride! There are sooo many great tunes heading your way. Thanks for stopping by and following the ranking. I hope that not only can users discover some new music here but maybe participate in some candid conversation about their favorite tunes as they pop up. Your Pal, Se7en. =P

Example [10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3][10.3] = 72.1 = 10.3
[The Beat] This will represent the overall rhythm and progression of the song imo. A slight evaluation of the instruments used in a song will also have weight on the final beat score.
[The Hook] This will represent how likely it is that I listen to the whole song if it popped up on the radio. It will also represent the interest that I have to even finish a song.
[The Lyrics] This will represent how well the verse and chorus are written imo. It will also represent my ability to memorize and sing along with the song if I have that interest. I also use this to measure how well the vocals mesh with the rest of the song imo.
[The Memories] This will represent how much the song invokes personal memories. In some cases a song may gain points based on it's use in other Pop Culture I am familiar with.
[The Message] This will represent the message of the song or the difficulty of understanding it's meaning imo. It also represents a degree of emotional response that I get from hearing the song. I also include points if a song comes with a decent backstory.
[The Stickiness] This will represent the likelyhood that the song will get stuck in my head when I hear it. Depending on whether it's a verse, chorus, beat, simple riff or the whole damn song can determine how many extra points I give.
[Top 100 Bonus] The ONLY piece of this scoring system that will be slightly Objective. I will score based on an average of the info I find. Top 100 lists, Best song lists, overall sales, awards won etc.
[The Leaning Points] Every Song ranked will receive a "leaning" score in all 7 categories. A [0.1], [0.2] or [0.3] will be added to help the further breakdown of a songs final score. It's simply as follows: [0.1] = I'm not 100% sure how I feel about a final score. [0.2] = The final score can go either way up or down. [0.3] = I am 100% confident in a final score.

==================================== { 1,085th Place } [70's][ 188th Place] Song: "All Right Now" Band: Free Album: Fire and Water ---{ 1970 }--- Genre: Hard Rock Score:[5.2][3.2][4.1][2.2][3.3][4.3][9.2] = [31.5] = [4.5] Video:
Write-Up: Well that's annoying. Yet another song that I had to replace the link to. That's kinda weird though since I do believe I had what I thought was an official music video before... but maybe I didn't. Anyway, this is a well loved classic but not for me. Something about the pacing of this song bugs me tbh. This song is part of the 1,000,000 radio plays club having reached the milestone almost 20 years after it's release. I wonder who keeps track of that info though and how accurate it can really be. Do radio stations really need to keep a detailed record of radio plays for submission to whoever counts this stuff? ====================================

==================================== { 1,084th Place } [70's][ 187th Place] Song: "Heart Of Gold" Band: Neil Young Album: Harvest ---{ 1972 }--- Genre: Folk Rock Score:[5.3][4.2][3.3][4.2][2.2][2.2][10.1] = [31.5] = [4.5] Video:
Write-Up: Probably one of the most notable songs for Neil Young fans and yet I'm dropping this below the Top 1,000. Why would I do that? Well, while it has a decent melody and whatnot it's kinda slow in the wrong way to me so it doesn't really grab my attention all that much. I do know some old timers that love this song though and I even have a client that is so into music she can remember everything to do with music. So much so that she surprises me with music knowledge I don't even have sometimes. I mention it here because there was a time when this song actually came up. We heard a brief snippet of the song and she belted out all of the info associated with the song. I think she has some sort of mystical rolodex in her head that categorizes any info on the subject. We have a person here that does the same for sports info too so it isn't uncommon for the folks I care for I suppose. ====================================

==================================== { 1,083rd Place } [10's][ 215th Place]@Dragon66116 Song: "Stutter" Band: The Veronicas Album: Life On Mars ---{ 2013 }--- Genre: Dance Pop Score:[6.2][5.2][6.2][0.3][6.2][4.2][3.2] = [31.5] = [4.5] Video:
Write-Up: So.. I'll get this out of the way first. There was an exception made for this song so I could include it in the ranking. The Album that it is stated for hasn't actually been released yet. It is a planned album but the details are a little fuzzy on when it'll actually be released but I passed it anyway. This is the only song in this entire ranking where this is the case where the Album may actually never be released due to some sort of litigation. There was a song earlier in the ranking by the Protomen that was to be on an unreleased album but that is definitely going to happen. Anyway, it's an ok tune but not preferable to some of their other hits. (One of them much further up the list) I do like this song a little bit better now for bumping that trash song Gagnam Style off of the Dance Pop spot on the Genre update. ====================================

==================================== { 1,082nd Place } [00's][ 229th Place]@Bane_Of_Despair Song: "Everyone Looks So Good From Here" Band: Underoath Album: Define The Great Line ---{ 2006 }--- Genre: Metalcore Score:[5.3][5.2][3.3][0.3][5.1][3.1][9.3] = [31.6] = [4.514] Video:
Write-Up: Woah. Earblasting for sure here. Jeeeeezus I wish I had turned my headphones down first lol. The fans have bumped this a bit for you here Bane although it probably didn't help much since we are still a few rankings away from the Top 1,000 and you are losing another nomination. If I were to like Metalcore I think this would still be middle of the road for me mostly. It doesn't have any noteworthy riff to get stuck in your head at all imo. Sorry here also as I don't have much else to say about this song. ====================================

==================================== { 1,081st Place } [70's][ 186th Place] Song: "Bat Out Of Hell" Band: Meat Loaf Album: Bat Out Of Hell ---{ 1977 }--- Genre: Hard Rock Score:[5.2][3.3][5.3][3.2][3.2][3.3][8.2] = [31.7] = [4.528] Video:
Write-Up: Hmm... I kinda feel like this should have been labeled as Progressive Rock but I just double checked a couple of resources and it is indeed classified as Hard Rock. The first of a couple of Meat Loaf songs to hit the list anyway. I don't remember where the other songs landed but there is one that is Top 500 for sure. Too bad for this song though. It isn't that there is anything really wrong with it either but it's pacing and spotty rhythym make it difficult to feel consistent emotionally about the song imo. I used to have like 4 or 5 copies of the cassette tape since it was a common find every time I bought a collection of tapes back in the day. Kinda weird that I went from having so many cassettes to literally like 4 or 5. That's all I found in my flea market junk. (I sell stuff at flea markets sometimes throughout the summer to pick up extra cash). I'm not a hoarder or anything but I seem to collect a lot of junk over the winter months and have to unload the closets every summer. That has zero to do with Meat Loaf but I ramble sometimes. I'm sure you are all used to it by now. :P ====================================

Write-Up: I feel like I should like this song better but I've double checked the numbers and nope, it lands below the Top 1,000. It's kinda weird because I wasn't expecting to see a song drop so soon that I originally thought I held in higher esteem. I mean... I guess my criteria is doing it's job if it's gonna keep me from being overly biased based on what I externally favor in the music I listen to. Anyway, I do like the beat and chorus in this song but I suppose the fact that I think it is a redundant tune pushes it so low. It is however the first Post Grunge tune to fall which puts us at 80 different genres so far before the Top 1,000. How's that for an all inclusive ranking? Foo Fighters is a band that was started by none other than Dave Grohl who was a former member of Nirvana in his early years. I remember the first time I realized that the dude looked familiar when Foo Fighters emerged on the music scene since I used to be a fan of Nirvana but it took me a minute to realize who he was. Nonetheless it made me an instant fan of Foo Fighters and I've listened to them ever since. They don't make all the "best" tunes but they do have a lot of hits on the market. ====================================

==================================== { 1,079th Place } [10's][ 214th Place]@linkhatesganon Song: "Wild Frontier" Band: The Prodigy Album: The Day Is My Enemy ---{ 2015 }--- Genre: Big Beat Score:[7.2][7.2][3.2][0.3][4.3][5.3][4.2] = [31.7] = [4.528] Video:
Write-Up: Oh damn. It's not looking great for you link. After this you'll be down to 1 nomination left! But it's Killer Queen so that should last awhile right? We'll have to wait and see but yeah you are the closest to getting knocked out of the Nominator Challenge. I have heard some Prodigy in my time but I never heard this tune for some reason but then again the Prodigy I've heard is from the late 90's I think. This is a cool tune though for what it's worth. It's an even weirder video to boot but I think it's interesting all the same. ====================================

"Best read of the game goes to se7en. Who correctly surmised this town is full of idiots." - Corrik Se7enthrust ~ Dude_Dexter
Write-Up: Ah, another tune from the year of my birth. There is a great chance I heard this at least 100 times before I was even born though. My mother used to listen to 80's rock a ton when I was young so I was sort of indoctrinated with it so much so that I always recognize it immediately when it comes on the radio. This here is one of those tunes that takes me back to the start of my life although I don't have any significant memories to go along with it. There are much better tunes from Journey that I prefer though and you'll see a couple of them further on up the list. ====================================

Write-Up: This song almost didn't make it into the ranking but was selected near the end as filler when I needed replacement songs. It was chosen by my wife though so that is why it's here mostly. I swear these songs sound so much different when you watch the wacky videos that come with them. I'm not much of a fashion afficianado but Lady Gaga is clearly over the top in that department in both ways possible. Either way too into it or too off her senses to know what it is lol. Anyway, she does vocalize ok despite my spiking of that score here. Not sure if I was in a mood when I reviewed this song for the score but it might be lower than I should have given it credit for. I'm still satisfied with the placement of this song at this time though. ====================================

"Best read of the game goes to se7en. Who correctly surmised this town is full of idiots." - Corrik Se7enthrust ~ Dude_Dexter
Write-Up: C'mon Timberlake you clearly have better talent than this cookie cutter Pop. I don't know if this is made specifically for the movie Trolls or if it was just an unproduced song of Justin's that he lent to the soundtrack but either way it's not really up my alley if you know what I mean. Maybe I can't connect to it because there is no feeling in my body that I can't stop lol. Anyway, yeah it's an overly happy song which isn't terrible but I do recall in the spring of 2016 hearing a radio personality predicting this to be the big Summer time hit of 2016 but um.. I don't really recall hearing it all that much that year tbh. 2016 was a bummer of a year for me so it might be why I just didn't pay much attention to it if I did hear it at all. Yet another song that my wife chose for the ranking though. No one tell her that I've been dropping her songs left and right please.lol ====================================

Write-Up: The 3rd Taylor Swift song to crash and burn before the Top 1,000 here and unfortunately another of your nominations Snake. There are actually a few of Taylor Swift's songs that I like tbh and fortunately they were selected for the ranking so you'll get to see those further up the list. I don't think I've really heard this one all that much though. It seems a bit different than the hits she usually turns out in the way that the rhythm is a bit more inconsistent here and I don't find a part of the song that gets stuck in my head like usual. There were pieces of White Horse that I even found catchy but I'm not getting that here which is interesting since I've already dropped White Horse awhile ago. ====================================

Write-Up: I was surprised at first to see a Madonna song that I had selected drop below 1,000 on the list but then after the review I discovered that this song wasn't as great as I had remembered. The beat is certainly classic Dance Pop if I can call it that but there isn't as much substance here as I originally thought. Madonna is and was my mother's favorite artist while I was growing up so one thing I could always count on hearing during chore time was some Madonna. We had one of those old stereo towers that had cassette and vinyl playability. I think my mother had almost all of Madonna's albums back then too. ====================================

"Best read of the game goes to se7en. Who correctly surmised this town is full of idiots." - Corrik Se7enthrust ~ Dude_Dexter
Write-Up: Interesting. When I heard this I had no idea that it was from this decade as it has a strong classic rock vibe to it. It's not too bad though for a modern rock classic. It's nothing that I find too catchy or anything but I don't have an issue if it were to pop up on the radio. The message isn't so bad and the fans brought it to the top of the charts so there is that. Unfortunately I just didn't have enough experience with it to favor it for one reason or another. The vocals are a bit sharp to my ears but remind me of another band that I can't place atm. The song does have some strong similarity to classic Zeppelin though. I wonder if they were inspired by the band or not? ====================================

Write-Up: And so with this ranking it is official. 1985 is the longest lasting year of music before receiving a ranking (a 1985 song has yet to drop at this point) and 2018 seemed like it was holding out but tbh there aren't a lot of 2018 tunes on the list but nevertheless, yay 1985. I wonder what the first tune will be from that year to drop? Anyway, back to this song... I honestly didn't realize that STP was still making music. It's a band that I was sure peaked in the 90's and tbh I'm not sure I've heard anything of theirs since the late 90's. Shows how much I've either been paying attention or maybe they've been off the scene since then? (I'd check but I'm too lazy atm). This song is a little bit catchy but does anyone else think it sounds more like a Buck Cherry song? ====================================

Write-Up: Oh man I'm sort of disappointed that this didn't make it into the Top 1,000. It's kinda one of those songs that is an "acquired taste" in preference but remains a classic all the same. It is another song that I would classify as "Jukebox Rock" since it can be found in a significant majority of them imo. It's atleast been present in nearly every Jukebox I've come across over the years but I don't know if that would be a regional thing or not. They sure do like this song in the biker bars in my area though. I had a phase in Jr High where I soaked up as much classic 70's rock as possible and this was always one of my favorites back then. Unfortunately after putting it through the score system here it doesn't appear that I favor it too much but I actually tolerate it quite well. ====================================

Correct but the 1st is the Total Sum of placements out of 1,300. The 2nd is the Sum of Placements out of 260.
In that case, what's the point of deriving the quotient?
It determines your overall placement amongst the other nominators. The smaller the result the closer you are to the top of the list. (It effectively shows who has the best performing collection of nominations.) ---

Don't worry azuarc! You'll bounce back. Let those who have had most of their nominations exit already enjoy what little time left they have on top. ---

Write-Up: Some decent background rock when you're at the billiard for sure and I know from experience. It's enough of a beat to get almost any Rock fan pumped up but I distinctly recall playing a game against a friend of mine and sank a few impressive shots jamming out to this. Unfortunately that's all I got really except a vague rememberance in a movie I can't quite remember atm but I'm sure this was used. I can recall no other significant times in my life where I have heard this song played. It's kinda weird because it sounds like it would have been so mainstream. Oh well at least it made it on to this list right? ====================================

==================================== { 1,069th Place } [70's][ 184th Place] Song: "Rocky Mountain Way" Band: Joe Walsh Album: The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get ---{ 1973 }--- Genre: Rock Score:[4.3][5.2][4.2][4.3][4.1][4.3][6.1] = [32.5] = [4.642] Video:
Write-Up: Meh... kinda mediocre Rock imo but I know a few fans. You can find this tune in a fair amount of Jukeboxes as well but I wouldn't say enough to call it a piece of Jukebox Rock. The beat is pretty basic for any Rock standard imo. I haven't listened to too many of Joe Walsh's songs so I wouldn't be able to recognize one if it popped up on the radio probably. I have heard this particular song more than a few times which is why I selected it. I thought it might just be filler anyway so I'm surprised to see it so close to the Top 1,000. This is a decent drinking song tbh no matter how tough on it I am. ====================================

Write-Up: Oh hey, here is a blast from hardly anyone's past. Just kidding but that was a reference to how not old this is. If you are into EDM this is an amazing sample I'm sure but something about this guys voice sounds funny to me almost like I can hear him imitating a voice that isn't his or something. Anyway the beat is above average for the most part and I would continue to listen if this popped up on the radio. I bet you could really rave hard to this tune if you were on happy pills though. This is one of the tunes that was near the top of my wife's nomination list. ====================================

==================================== { 1,067th Place } [10's][ 208th Place] @Phoenix_Smasher Song: "Just A Ride" Band: Rishloo Album: Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth ---{ 2014 }--- Genre: Progressive Rock Score:[7.1][6.2][5.2][0.3][5.3][4.2][4.2] = [32.5] = [4.642] Video:
Write-Up: So I came across this tune randomly (I filled the bot list before it was claimed by Phoenix) and had never heard it until then but it's a tune that is slowly growing on me. I'm not sure if it will pop up as a Ranking Regret or not but I sort of really like the beat here as it's so fantastical and unusual to my ears. I didn't dig up too much fanservice for this band so I have a feeling they might be relatively unknown atm. If I were changing any of these before the Top 1,000 I might have considered bumping the score for the vocals up a little but I'm not sure there is enough change in my opinion for it to matter anyway. ====================================

Write-Up: This sounds like old school punk or something but it does make me think of the 90's so it's clearly got a descriptive sound of sorts. The yelling is a bit much.. or maybe it's a disconnection with the vocalist that I have tbh. I'm sure if I was familiar with the band my tolerance level would be far greater. I scored this a bit higher than one might expect on the memory segment of the score because this reminds me of something awesome that happened a long time ago... maybe it was in the 90's or maybe I am actually recalling hearing this when I thought I was sure I hadn't? Hmm. My gdamn memory isn't like it used to be.lol ====================================
