Grendel posted...MrMelodramatic posted...Whst do grown ups do in the summer? Be a homeless bum because you don't work and don't have money. Not only do you lose your summer vacations when you graduate school, but you also lose your Christmas vacations. Most students get like 3 weeks off for Christmas. Your employer will most likely only give you Christmas Day off (and maybe Christmas Eve if you're lucky) and that's all. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I think Id like to be a high school English teacher. Keep in mind a few things. Teaching tends to be a low paid job. Yes, you get more vacation time than the average job, but you also get paid less than the average job as well. It's a trade off. Also, not all teachers get the summers off if you teach summer school. Teachers also tend to have homework just like their students. You know how you hate to write papers and take tests? Well, as a teacher, you're going to have to grade those papers and tests. That's your new homework is grading papers and tests and such. Most jobs don't have homework, but teaching does. Imagine you have 30 students in your class. You're going to have to grade 30 papers as your homework.... ... Copied to Clipboard!

I get paid about $60,000 per year, although I have my masters. Not high paying for a job with a master's, but not really low paying. Plus, if I chose to work summer school, I would get paid. So like you said, it's a trade off, but if I taught summer school I'd get paid like a normal job. rogerskg1979 posted... Teachers also tend to have homework just like their students. As an adult, doing things like concerts, fireworks, going on a boat ride, hiking or biking or whatever, all those summer things to do actually become easier to do because you are working and paying for them yourself instead of begging mom for money.
So the doing stuff part of summer can be better. The not doing part of summer, the being lazy af, sleeping in until almost noon, the having all the time in the world to bs feeling.... that will never come back. So enjoy it. --- BADoglick to the Max! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm teaching the same subject as i taught last year, so I don't have to make an all new curriculum. Of course I modify stuff and change stuff, but nothing major changes. and for new teachers or teachers new to a building, they'll sometimes have a teacher their who has taught or is teaching the same stuff. ... Geez, you guys make it sound like he won't have any vacation days either. Well, the average amount of annual PTO is 15 days, so that amounts to 3 weeks, which is far far far less than the months of vacation you get as a student. Personally, I get 20 PTO days at my job. It was 10 when I first started, with gradual increases annually. The max amount of PTO I will get is 25 days at this job. ... Copied to Clipboard!
