So the island natives have been tending to the Jedi shrine for thousands of years, and quite rightly as it hosted important Jedi texts.

However, Rey has since stolen those texts, and Yoda burnt the tree to a crisp. Yet, there is no indication for what the future holds for the islanders. Either they and their descendants will go on tending an empty monument for eternity, or they will slink into self-destruction as the entire purpose of their simple civilization has been overturned.

Of course the screenwriters felt no need to address this dilemma.

seems like they did a shitty job of protecting the island. hope their pensions are wiped out

Or why when they were fighting there the one guy swung at his own guys, or the guy who realized that he was still and the shot and you can see him move his head back a forth.
