What leak?

Leaks are bullshit, especially this early. The only things that could have been leaked so far is E3 stuff, which isn't anything special. People who worked at the convention could have easily obtained stuff pertaining to that, but nothing else about the game. So any information further than that has no merit even if they leaked the other stuff correctly.

We saw this happen exactly with Smash 4; someone leaked E3 information and since it had really hard to predict stuff like Wii Fit Trainer people believed the entire leak was real. But they only had E3 information; everything else was made up, and would eventually be proven fake. But every time someone questioned it the response would be "But they got Wii Fit Trainer right! So they must be legit!"

To be fair, this leaker has a lot more credibility in general than just getting E3 stuff right

He leaked TMNT in Injustice, and even the fact that they were four character in one, far before they were announced. He also leaked Base Goku and Vegeta as DLC in FighterZ before they were datamined, and correctly leaked the SC6 and FighterZ Switch announcements. And then, of course, he knew Ridley and the "Ultimate" name before E3.

Obviously it's not to be taken as gospel, and he has gotten stuff wrong, but he clearly has SOME kind of source and thus that's why he's not just being ignored completely.

Man I'd rather not follow leaks at all and just be surprised when the official announcements are made. Especially with reveal trailers as good as the ones Smash does.

I'm not saying that there are NEVER leaks, I'm just saying blindly believing leaks that happen to get some stuff right is always a huge problem, because it never turns out to be completely true that way (meanwhile the leak you're talking about was the ESRB leak, which not only occurred a month before release when the game was being rated, but also had video footage. That's completely different from a random list of fan wishes posted on some message board right after the game is announced that happens to get some stuff right, sometimes by accident).

Again, people aren't just blindly following some guy that just posted a list. He actually has credibility in leaking more than just Smash. Like, nobody's saying it's gospel, but something like Simon Belmont being revealed when this guy already has a pretty decent record gives some weight to what he's saying instead of just being a random guess since he already has credibility to begin with

This wouldn't be "Random dude got one thing right and we follow him blindly"

It's "Dude got something pretty random right and has a record of leaking other games"

There was also a leaker who nailed Mega Man, Villager, Miis, Little Mac, Pac-Man, and even Wii Fit Trainer pre-reveal, and then went on to get Palutena right as well, but said that Shulk would be revealed when Robin was, and flat out got Chrom and Chorus Kids wrong, so sometimes these guys can have legit info and then start getting cocky and making shit up that eventually becomes wrong.

"same guy" on 4chan posted before the evo announcement that there was going to be an 8.8 Direct with a character reveal and that he hopes it's Spring Man because he doesn't know who it is

I say "same guy" because it's a 4chan post and it's easy to copycat a pic/signature, but i mean he was right about the Direct date so

idk it seems like nothing substantial to me

EDIT: I reread the post and he says he thinks it's going to be Spring Man, NOT hopes, which is very different.

I only know of the Vergeben one about Simon, so I have no idea who the other guy is.

Vergeben was leaking stuff like Ridley and Snake returning and all that back in like, April and May, which is also when he said Belmont.

Vergeben is the one that's gotten Injustice/SC6/FighterZ/etc. stuff correct, so he's got a bit more credibility, but he's also been fed more false information, too.

EDIT: That said, like I implied, if Belmont's actually in it then I'll be more likely to believe Vergeben, atleast, because he said it back in like, May. And at the very least, Vergeben atleast had some kind of legit source at one point, because he predicted both TMNT in Injustice and Groh in SC6, as well as describing their weapons/how they played/etc. correctly.

Spring Man seems unlikely because he's so recent. Based on previous stuff Sakurai has said they would have decided on the roster before Spring Man even existed.

Yeah Sakurai has said in interviews that he finalized the roster in... I think February 2016 or something, so unless he got some early access to Arms concept art and resources and everything stayed exactly the same since Arms alpha then I doubt we'll get Spring Man

Arms is basically dead it only got 1500 viewers average during Grand Finals at Evo
