So, on last Saturday I went to a Wedding. The people going to the wedding were encouraged to stay at the SpringHill Suites By Marriot West Mifflin. The bride and groom had a block of rooms set aside for them.

We booked ours about a month in advance.

Check-in is at 3pm. We were hoping to early check in as the wedding itself started at 4:15 and their shuttles were 3:40 / 3:55 / 4:10.

However, we ran behind and did not get there until 2:55pm. So, we got there and the lobby was packed with like 60 people.

I groaned and was like damn, but we had already booked so it should just be as easy as getting our key. The computer screen said we could check in online and pick up our key with the app. So I downloaded the app. Nowhere at all on the app to check in. Just options to cancel.

So whatever, we wait about 30 minutes til around 3:25. This line hasn't moved at all! My fiancee finally gets upset and goes to the front and asks the lady what is going on that she needs to change for the wedding and put on her makeup. The lady kindly says that she had to wait til check-in time at 3pm. She points out it is nearly 3:30.

The lady at the counter immediately changes her story upon looking at the clock and says that platinum members are allowed late checkouts til 4pm and that after they check out they still have to clean the rooms. Saying that rooms may not be ready til about 5pm.

A bunch of people behind us start getting upset. One lady comes up and says, but I booked on Expedia. I already paid for my room. Why can't I go in? The lady at the desk responds that only people who booked directly through them shall be honored and if you booked through a website you are not guaranteed a room. That lady and her family left to get a room at a different hotel down the road and were not happy.

After 10 minutes later, more people came up complaining they had to get ready for the wedding and paid for their rooms from 3pm. Lady at the desk loses her cool and starts get really sarcastic and smug with people. Saying it's not my fault. Your rooms are dirty. What do you want dirty rooms? With a smirk on her face.

Finally someone says can we just use the rooms while they clean because we have to get ready to go the shuttles are now leaving (1st shuttle just left at this point). The lady at the desk says you are all welcome to use the bathroom lobby to change and leave your things in the lobby and when we are done with your rooms we will put your stuff into your rooms for you.

The bathroom lobby is a single person bathroom. And, now we have about 35 women trying to hurriedly get ready one at a time in order to catch the shuttle to the wedding. Luckily, my fiancee got in early but she didn't have time to put any of her makeup on. Just her dress.

I told her to put our stuff back in the car. I didn't trust it in the lobby. Many people left their stuff in the lobby.

Catch the last shuttle. Many people missed it. Get there and normal wedding whatever. Bride and Groom paid for a shuttle til 1am. The shuttle driver was refusing to drive after 10:30 until she showed him the receipt of what she paid for.

Get back to hotel. Everyone who left their stuff in the lobby was missing their stuff. All on wrong rooms or hidden behind the lobby desk. Get our room at about 11pm. Sheets are dirty. Bloodstains on the carpet.

Fun times?

Last time I will probably use Marriot.

Uh, yeah, if you book a hotel room that you can check in to at 3 and the wedding is at 4:15, then I planned to check in at 3 unless an early check-in was allowed (which they weren't).

That is maybe the worst experience at a hotel front desk I've ever heard.

Front desk lady should be fired for this.

And everyone lost their stuff because of ineptitude? There were bloodstains on the sheets? This calls for you leaving horrible ratings everywhere you can. Do that and complain to corporate as well.

I actually complained to corporate at 3:30 pm hoping it would maybe get me checked in. They sent me an email yesterday asking what happened.

Sheets were dirty with dirt. Bloodstains were on the carpet in front of a sink.

I don't understand a hotel policy that has check-in at 3pm... But offers their platinum members a 4pm checkout (like... The check in is before their checkout). Then just thinks you can delay people checking in til 5pm or later due to allowing late check outs.

Sounds like a shitty wedding hotel that knows it has a captive audience

There's a marriott I stay at often that is mostly for drunk partying people and it's got some of the best service ever

Bloodstains on the carpet is the perfect way to end that story.

I've had some shitty ass hotel stays, but yours is worse automatically by nature of the time crunch from the wedding.

What sort of morons try to check into their hotel an hour before the wedding without already being dressed and made up.

The kind who just flew in and only had a short window of time to tend to all of that? Getting dressed up on the plane tends to not be a good idea.

What if the flight got delayed?

If you flew in your own guests, then that is not a normal wedding.

People don't usually fly in people on their own dime, especially early

And here I was thinking their $20,000+ wedding was ridiculously too much.
