Probably a little of both.

My usual instinctive reaction to a lot of what Wave says when it comes to health or life in general is "please leave the third-world nation that is the South and move to somewhere that actually exists in the 21st century", but I rarely say it because I do understand that it's kind of hard for people to move to states where the cost-of-living is absolutely insane.

Eh, Northern healthcare isn't all that it's cracked up to be either. I have relatives in NJ who have been in and out of and in the hospital due to medical fuck-ups. Then I think I mentioned how a friend in Mass got a spider bite that a doctor misdiagnosed it (after he explained what he thought the spider was) and he could have had some pretty serious problems if he didn't go back.

Depends on the hospital, I'd say. I've been in some of the most advanced hospitals in the world for their particular field of medicine, and I've been in some run-down butcher shops where you assume they're absolutely going to screw something up.

It also depends on if you're talking long-term low-grade care or higher-level stuff. There's definitely a scale of service.

But I'm not just talking about medical support when I recommend most people leave the South. There's a lot of socio-economic reasons to flee as soon as possible.

I would love to move out of South Mississippi, but the wife wants to stay close to her family, and rgua I do not have much of a choice.

Which is is a dumb reason to stay because her mother and father are racist, and she does not talk to them much at all any longer.

As for me, I do not think anything is wrong with me or my access, because I ran my full dialysis treatment earlier today without any issues. I think I having an unnecessary operation in the morning.

So it is a mix of the crappy healthcare system down here, and not being able to leave the state.

Was watching The Endless (2017) earlier when I was once again reminded how the affordability of drones has really improved the b-side material in low budget films. A lot of low-budget films, etc, seemed to skip aerial shots due to the cost of a helicopter and shooting from certain angles due to logistics. (Granted, this doesn't seem to be super low budget, but it's a lower budget film.)

Also realized that it was a "prequel" of sorts in a film that was released years earlier which I may need to check out.

A low cost of living is why I live where I live (southwest Ohio) despite this region being equally as bad as the South in several respects (e.g. the opioid epidemic, countless foreclosed homes, endemic racism, etc.). ... To be honest, it feels like Urban America and Rural America might as well be two separate countries, since they have so little in common now, and since it is so hard to move from one to the other.

Glad I got out of Stamford when I did. Granted, it was more a matter of being forced out of Fairfield county economically, but from the news I've seen in the 6 or 7 years since, the area is turning into a wanna be Manhattan with none of the infrastructure to support that desire.

I had the chest surgery today. It was not successful. Part of the dialysis graph has come loose and is blocking access to my heart and proper dialysis.

Therefore, I'm still in the hospital, and I have to wait for the specialist to perform the operation. However, my normal vascular specialist is in France on vacation with his wife and kids for the next week.

I meet thr doctor who us taking his place and he somehow hit himself in the face with a baseball bat and now has a giant black eye. These are my doctors. I'm probably going to die.

My wife was scared because she was not convinced that he did actually hit himself with the baseball bat. She thinks he owes the vietnamese mafia gaming debt money, and since he is a surgeon, they can't break his fingers so they took it off on his face.

I love my wife. I hate hospitals.

I'm back home for the time being. After talking with 4 different doctors, and 8nder going 3 ultrasounds, numerous blood test, and a lovely CT scan, they all concluded that my dialysis graph in my chest is working well enough for me to continue my normal routine, and I could go home.

However, I do eventually have to have the beck surgery to properly reconnect the Vein in my neck with the graph in my chest. It's a major surgery that is going to take place within the next month or so, but in the meantime I'm back at home with my wife and the kitty cats.

I am not looking forward to having my neck cut open, but I do not have much of a choice.

I like Becky Lynch as the Smackdown Women's Champion. For a couple of reasons.

1. She's a red head.

2. I don't really like Charlotte Flair wll that much. That mole on her left chin is so distracting from someone who otherwise is so pretty. Aside from that, I don't care what the booking says, she is the villain inthis fued. They book Becky as this Rocky type, hard working, underdog who fought for this title only for Charlotte to get shoe horned into the picture because of her name recognition. Thanks for the stupid boning WWE.

I know the ultimate plan is to have Ronda Rousey and Charlotte fight for a unified belt at Wrestlemania, but I am enjoying this Becky Lynch title run.

So, I just watched to new episode of Doctor Who. I approve of it, overall.

The pacing, to me, is reminiscent of the first two seasons of Torchwood. The tone is also somewhere between those seasons versus First Fourth and Fifth Series of Doctor Who, while still holding on to what Doctor Who is supposed to be about.

We all had worries about how much they'd make the show about the Doctor being a woman now, right? Well, this one episode addressed the gender change in two peripheral fashions, beginning and end, that made just the right amount of sense, and it chose instead to dwell on change in general (Oh, my legs were definitely longer," after she tries a running jump to save the day). The first of two instances amounted to "Oh, I'm a woman now? Does it suit me?" before moving on immediately, and the second was when someone suggested a change of clothes and she joked it had been so long since she ever bought women's clothing; even the outfit selection was quick and painless.

The new companions aren't special. No weird title or prophecy, none of that. The Doctor didn't stand outside her box and say "Hey, I'm a time traveler. Why don't you come with me?" They, plus one, worked together during the first episode because of a common goal or interest. One died, kind of predictably, and the show's length and pacing allowed for the death to have some meaning and impact on the other characters. Note also that I said "kind of" as you don't really know HOW it will happen until half a moment before it does. Comically, the Doctor accidentally pulls the trio along with her by accident as she tries seeking out her TARDIS, and it's amusing even knowing that that much is going to happen ahead of time. Additionally, this first episode put a fair amount of focus on the companions as people, characters, before the Doctor shows up.

The new threat faced this episode got a pass. Think Predator movies meets the Prisoner Zero story of Fifth Series, give the antagonist a somewhat questionable design choice that at least doesn't take away from the story, and then pull an off-screen save from the Doctor that beats this bad guy a smidge too quickly. Another warrior race beaten with a sonic screwdriver, this tool being handcrafted with items lying around in a garage. And yet, Moffat-isms are nowhere to be found here. This is more of a case of "We need to wrap this up and beat the bad guy. Here's the Doctor being clever without even hinting at what she had up her sleeve."

With the severe lack of Moffat, the emergence of valuable storytelling and pacing, and the Doctor actually finding what she's about in an organic manner, I'm giving this episode an 8/10. It's not as strong of a first outing as a few other Doctors, but it works very well and shows promise for where the rest of the series will go.

Now we wait and see if enough of the fanbase gives it a chance that the show can live off the resulting ratings. That part alone will be rough given the previous showrunner.

This is encouraging. I have been hearing nothing but positive things about the new season. I was starting to fear that the Moffat-ing of the show might send it back to the grave it occupied between 1996 and 2005.

As much as people scream that she needs a solo movie because FEMINISM, it's not as if she's ever been a particularly interesting character. She works better as a supporting character in other people's movies (or in the Avengers) than she would on her own.

It's not even a gender thing - I feel exactly the same way about Hawkeye.

I'd even say the same thing about Coulson - as much as I liked the character, I don't think a Coulson solo movie would have worked. The only reason Agents of SHIELD works at all is because a) it's a TV show and not a blockbuster movie, and b) it relies almost as much on the rest of the supporting cast as it does him, and even then opinions about it tend to vary pretty strongly from person to person.

As much as Disney might love the idea for cash-in purposes, I don't think every single member of the team needs their own solo film. Save those for the major characters, and keep some of the others as minor supporting cast, and it makes the major characters feel even more important.

This tickles me more.

But mainly because I always loved the Hawkeye/Mockingbird dynamic. Which is part of why I disliked that the MCU basically shitcanned most of his actual character, and Mockingbird got dumped off on Agents of SHIELD (where they stuck her with a Hawkeye expy whose personality is actually closer to the real thing).

If they gave movie Hawkeye something resembling a personality and played up the buddy cop dynamic with Widow (which arguably WAS a thing in the comics as well, even earlier than the Hawkeye/Mockingbird relationship), I'd probably enjoy a team-up movie between the two. But as is... ehh.

It's not a conspiracy theory that you can get sick from flu shots. It's accepted common knowledge that a flu shot can give you a mild case of the flu if it's not quite as dead as it's supposed to be.

A lot of doctors straight up suggest that you shouldn't even get a flu shot for precisely that reason, unless you're in a dangerously at risk health group like the elderly or people with compromised immune systems. Because in your attempt to avoid getting sick, you can basically make yourself sick.

Even moreso since no flu shot is ever really 100% effectively anyway, because you're inoculating against LAST season's flu, not whatever new strains are going to evolve in the current season. It's like putting on a bullet-proof vest and hoping the bullets hit your chest and not your limbs or head.

It's not even fighting last year's flu. The CDC basically guesses at which flu is going to be the big one for the year and that's what they make the vaccine for.

He's bland toast that occasionally makes forced quips. Mostly when Whedon is puppeting him.

Comic Hawkeye is so much cooler/more expressive. As has been pointed out in the past, he literally grew up in a circus, and picked up on con-man/carney lingo and patter to the point where he's actually saved the entire universe by essentially running the shell game con on the Grandmaster. He was the hotshot who questioned authority and tried to showboat his way into the spotlight, only to have his personality tempered learning at the feet of people like Captain America, until he eventually evolved into an effectively leader in his own right (but still one who was way more relaxed and casual about things).

And then he had a really hot wife for a while, until Steve Englehart decided he didn't like her, so he had her get raped by a ghost and they got divorced (Steve Englehart ruined a lot of comics in the late 80s).

True... But I don't expect a win against a MAJOR enemy from either of them. But it would still be nice to have seen one of them defeat a "mid-boss" type enemy, or something. I did like that Hawkeye got to show off a lot of his "special arrows", particularly in Avengers 1 where he used an explosive arrow, a thermite arrow (or something similar), an electric arrow (that arced to nearby enemies), and a grapple arrow. But he didn't use any against any major enemy (except the one against Loki which barely phased him).

To be fair, both him and Natasha are basically vanilla humans with some brainwashing in effect in the MCU. Sure, Tony is just a mehum in high tech armor...but he DOES have crazy high tech armor. "The city is flying, were fighting an army of robots and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense."

The above quote pretty much sums up Hawkeye in the MCU as a whole.

Also, just saw Venom. Way better than I'd expected. Didn't think pulling off a Venom movie without Spidey was possible. My only major gripes are that I've always viewed Brock as way more of a dudebro douchebag than he was portrayed as (which I thought was squarely within Hardy's wheelhouse), and if I'm not mistaken it was almost a decade in the comics before Venom became a chatty Kathy.

I get why they had to give him a proper voice in movie logic, and I'm mostly ok with that.

Is Venom pushed as a hero or antihero in the film? Kinda curious how things will work if he does interact with Spidey.

I guess I have to say antihero. He's got his reasons for doing what he does, but he's threatening to bite heads off and eat pancreas' the whole time and that more or less fits with the general Venom/ symbiote as a whole aesthetic.

PO, one of Third's favorite things to use is back, at least sorta for one instance so far, and it doesn't feel absolutely shoehorned and stupid like Twelve using it. <_<

That was how I felt about it. ... Especially the Easter egg at the end.

I'm probably gonna hold off on Venom. It got bad reviews but good word-of-mouth.

I hate the concept of it, but it seems the popular opinion is that it's a fun movie regardless.

The impression that I'm getting is that it's one of those movies you can enjoy if you're capable of completely turning your brain off while watching, but if you expect anything resembling sensible writing or well-structured plot you're kind of out of luck.

I feel like whether or not you were a Venom fan as a kid will also play a role in how low you set your bar.
