And those books absolutely exist, and are pretty bad.

Force them to listen to The Stolen Century arc of The Adventure Zone. Tell them to play like that. Profit.

That's not going to happen.
Everyone is very opinionated in their own styles and they joke about "not having to read the rules to transition from dnd to pbta".

These people are a lost cause, but I poached a few of them for my pbta game and I'm slowly teaching them how to actually play as intended.

And eventually the other group will switch to a different system so it should be easier for my players to "get into pbta mode".

That's the theory anyway.

Not this weekend, but eventually. The video game industry has done so many underhanded, reprehensible, and just plain bullshit things with games I have zero faith in any company any more, so I absolutely refuse to buy any game on launch day, ever.

I'm going to wait to hear reviews. Granted, I assume most of them are going to have their mouth wrapped firmly around Rockstar's cock, but I'm curious to hear about things like bugs, DLC, microtransactions, and gameplay quirks like constantly having to take baths and groom your horse, because the bullshit is definitely in there, no matter how loudly a lot of people are screaming GREETEST GAME EVAR!

I'm in no rush anyway - I still need to buy Spider-Man, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and God of War. And I still have Uncharted 3 & 4 and Lost Legacy, Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider, and Syberia 3 in my pile of games I bought previously and just never got around to playing (I'm playing Dishonored 2 right now). And there's always Minecraft.

Last generation I didn't even buy the "current gen" console until like 7 years in, let alone buying games at release. I'm too old to give a shit about being the first person to own and play any given game. It also helps that nearly everything I play is single player, because it means the game will be pretty much the same whenever I get around to it, and I'm not tied to the fickle gaming habits of every other asshole online for matchmaking purposes, or having to worry when a piece of shit company shuts down all their servers and screws me.

That would defeat both the comfort and the warmth parts, but that's probably the best acted sequence from the BBC live action version.

RD2 has so much minor bulls*** that I don't think I could really ever get into it.

Like, I don't want to spend time watching my character loot bodies, I don't want to wait for my horse to come over to me when I whistle, I don't want to watch my character to skin an animal.
I think people's clamoring for realism isn't what they actually want, it's probably more consistent and thought out worlds/people.

I respect that version a lot for actually getting the original voice actors of Arthur Dent and Zaphod to play their characters from the original radio show.

I respect it less for recasting Ford and Trillian with worse alternatives, though.

My biggest pet peeve with that version hands down is the Vogon ship cargo bay scene. When Ford lights the match to see better, there's a solid 3 or 4 seconds where a pin spot is clearly aimed at the back of Ford's head. I used to do stage lighting and theater tech and I don't know what irks me more about that scene...Ford missing his mark by 2 feet, the pin spot operator that just said "fuck it" and didn't give a single fuck that the spot was obviously on the back of his head, or the BBC for doing a one take and obviously doing that entire sequence with interns.

Even the most forgettable Monty Python skits had better treatment than that.

And while I'm on a tear, Castlevania season 2 was great, and as I meander thru s3 of Daredevil, Dinofrio's Fisk continues to astound me because this was never how I pictured Fisk, but he has consistently exceeded my expectations with his own take on Fisk.

Makes me wonder how well my insane fan casting of Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat from DS9) would work out as Doom if we ever got a decent version of the Fantastic 4...

I feel like the movie was only really good in the parts that were just copied straight from previous versions of the story, and nearly every new aspect of the story was terrible. Nor did it really help that Zaphod and Ford felt really miscast to me.

I liked pretty much all the casting. Sam Rockwell was a great Zaphod IMO, what bothered me was the way they handled his "two heads". Kinda lazy IMO.

Apparently at least some of the new ideas they added were straight from Douglas Adams himself (like the paddles that slap you when you have a thought, and the empathy gun). But for me the biggest flaw was adding a cliche Hollywood ending where Dent and Trillian get together.

That damn Playstation Classic Lineup is crap on a cracker, a stale cracker. Of the 20 games on the retro console maybe 5 or 6 are worth my time. Granted I played the **** out of Coolboarders 2 when I was in junior high, but I am slightly interested to see how the game has aged. Which I am sure the game has not aged well at all, but I'm an optimist.

Metal Gear Solid is a classic.
Wild Arms is solid.
Twisted Metal has not aged well.
Persona 1 probably hasn't either.
Final Fantasy VII is a classic.
Coolboarders 2 I talked about.

The rest I can live without.

Here is the entire list and article.

Same here, because I still own my PS1 and all my games.

Then again, the NES and SNES couldn't win me over either in spite of me NOT having those consoles anymore, so I never expected the PS1 to pull it off.

That being said, I do have nostalgic memories of Destruction Derby, and it's probably the only game I would be interested in that I don't currently own.

I suspect the problem is rights issues, though. For all we give Nintendo shit in general for shunning third party developers in favor of constantly recycling their own shit over and over and over again for decades, it does mean they're still going to retain the rights of all those games even decades later, and it's easy to put their most popular titles in a classics console. Whereas for Sony, we can look at a list of all their most popular games (ie, all the ones that they released as Greatest Hits titles in their era), and most of them could probably never wind up in a classics console either because the rights can't be acquired at all, or because they would cost too much for potential profit.

Now it seems like Fox and The Simpsons team are just going to eliminate Apu from future Simpons episodes. People are the worst. It's too bad we don't see much backlash against backlash and that the far larger reaction to a change isn't taken more seriously.

And, in general, the outrage is even more ridiculous since they have countless other stereotypes on the show, most of which have far less basis today than the idea of an Indian convenience store manager/owner.

There's no skin in the game for actually making a change and a way to focus, so by being frustrated at the world and society, there isn't something to directly go after so it's wild flailing.

I was never able to get into Persona. I think I was basically just completely out of the loop for Shin Megami Tensei, then when Persona spun off I kind of dismissed it out of hand because of the SMT tie, and because in my head I sort of confused it with Tecmo's Deception (which I played and really disliked).

Then by the time the franchise sort of caught my attention again, it looked like someone had basically found a way to distill the entirety of Japanese anime culture down into liquid form and shot it directly into their veins. As of Persona 5, I just find the style really jarring and offputting, so I can't get past the aesthetics.

Persona 3-4-5 might as well be a different series, IMO. You are correct to infer that Persona 1-2IS-2EP are more akin to original SMT, especially in terms of tone and atmosphere (and dense plot, especially in 2IS and 2EP), and 3-4-5 is more ... modern, and not in a way that appeals to all gamers, which is a fair assessment.

See, I think P5 is cool, but I understand why it is not for everybody. Then again, I also like Deception, though the game mechanics can be clunky in the early entries.

So I wrote a long, long post for the FFXIV official forums regarding one form of content that was given to us during this Stormblood expansion cycle. The word doc I used spanned eleven and a half pages, including links to a few images I added for flavor or effect.

It took up five posts in the opening of the topic I made at that forum. It's picking up some support, as the "Likes" a topic gets is generally how you get Squeenix's attention about an issue in the game (not the feedback tickets or anything else at this point). My sub will be running out in a couple hours, with no intention of renewing until December maybe, so I won't be able to post at the forum after that happens, nor do I recall if I'll even be able to keep track of that topic without logging in.

We'll see how that goes, though, as support for what I said rises.

Meanwhile, I have other games to play and finish, a job to try getting so I can continue to support myself, and still more moving plans on hold since the desirable, somewhat safe places for me to live are needlessly expensive (and the affordable places are garbage or dangerous).

"Fun" times. <_<

The WWE has all but scrubbed Chris Benoit from the history of WWF & WWE. I can't blame them considering he is a violent murderer, but it is still fun to bring him up from the depths of the WWE abyss once a decade or so.

It's doubly amusing to me because of my friend Jesse. And now it's story time.

What a few people fail to remember is that in their haste to honor Benoit the Monday after his murder/suicide, on Raw Vince and the production staff created a Benoit tribute show. It was basically 3 hours of WWE celebrating the life of a horrible killer. Not really funny in retrospect, but Jesse made it funny by his adamant denial that Benoit was innocent and even after the full story was revealed he changed his opinion to "He was framed." Jesse never said who framed him, just that it was a vast conspiracy.

My friend Double R loved teasing Jesse about his wild conspiracy garbage, and that Monday night Raw Benoit special that WWE aired and then pretended never happened, well Double R recorded it on his DVR. He did so not to spite Jesse, at first, but because he honestly had to work that Monday night as he was on call from his job.

Afew years go by, and Double R needed sone help moving, and as good friends we all volunteered. Double R was switching fron cable to Directv, and so he was going through the DVR, and the old WWE Benoit special was on there. Double R started playing that damn special as loud as he could on his television as we moved his stuff, and Jesse just went on and on about how he was set up and framed, and we just laughed and laughed until we could no longer move anything. We just sat there and mocked our dear stupid friend for hours until he got fed up and left.

That's my favorite Benoit memory, and why I smile when I think of Benoit.

tbh, it's kinda ridiculous, especially since some of the WWE's other murderers haven't received similar censor, like Jimmy Snuka who was allegedly helped by Vince with the cover-up.

That's the problem when you react right away before the facts come out. And, to some extent, the concussions that Benoit received while working for the WWE likely played some role in his mental health issues.

tbh, it's kinda ridiculous, especially since some of the WWE's other murderers haven't received similar censor, like Jimmy Snuka who was allegedly helped by Vince with the cover-up.

That kind of makes perfect sense - Vince has always been the sort of person who only cares about morality when PR comes into play. If you can't PROVE Snuka was involved, then he clearly wasn't, QED.

With Benoit, there was literally no time to spin and no way to cover up, so they had to fall in step with the outrage.

It could be worse, though. For all his shenanigans, I'm pretty sure Vince never went as far as Colon did after the Bruiser Brody incident. Then again, that might be less lack of intent and more a question of opportunity.

Considering that Papa Vince took half a billion dollars from the evil Saudi Arabian government to bring shows to the Middle East, shows that cannot include women, and clearly ignore the political climate, it shows you Vince only cares about the money, until the optics get muddy like P.O. said.

I love wrestling. I have not been a fan of the booking for the last 5 years. But I am proud of the fact that certain wrestlers told Vince they were not going to compete in that crap fest that was Super Show Down.

Which bought out retreads like DX and The Brothers of Destruction. Worse was being short on talent they bought in former exiled racist Hulk Hogan. Since places in the middle east are 30 years behind the rest of the world socially I guess "Slogan." Was a naturally choice for an ass backwards sexist middle east show.

The idea that Hogan should be exiled forever for an offensive remark he made in private close to 20 years ago is ridiculous, especially when you have other athletes who physically harm something, go to prison for it, and then are re-signed after their release. It's a ridiculous double-standard.

Almost like it's for a... point?
That working with someone who is clearly a pretty bad guy just because of money... isn't a good indicator of moral standing.

I'm all for making bank, and getting paid for that work, but there has to be a line. I do not think I am the right person to decide that line, but taking half a billion dollars from an evil dictator might be my personal line. Yours might not be, and I'm in no position to judge as I am not a millionaire or billionaire, and I live pay check to paycheck.

As for Slogan. Maybe I am harsher on him because I am a minority. And I think if you are saying this crap in a semi public forum then what are you saying behind closed doors?

My point wasn't the right or wrong of bringing back Slogan. My point was that enough of the top talent said "No" to the e w t fhat they had to being back Slogan.

The complaint most people seem to have over it is the fact that he hasn't really apologized for it in a way that seems actually contrite, and that his apology basically seemed to boil down to "Man, if you're going to say terrible things, make sure no one is listening and don't get caught."

Personally, I don't give a shit about what he said, but then again, I also don't really give a shit about Hulk Hogan at this point either. So I'm not super-invested in whether or not he comes back.

What point? That it's trendy to hate on Saudi Arabia for doing many of the same things we give a free pass to other governments for, including our own?

Which might be a good argument if you weren't so selective with your outrage. When any number of celebrities (including Beyonce) do something for the Sultan of Brunei or his offspring, nobody on this board seems to care despite the fact that the country has the death penalty for blasphemy, sodomy, etc.

...what semi-public forum? He was *literally* saying it behind closed doors. He wasn't hosting a private event where he was banging his friend's wife, he was doing it in a setting where he had every expectation of privacy.

As for what else he might be saying behind closed doors, if he was actively making racist comments that would have leaked out years ago. And personally I'm a bit more worried about people *doing* awful things than just privately saying or thinking awful things (unless they're a politician rather than just an entertainer). There are countless actors I think are absolutely awful human beings, but I still enjoy their work. Likewise, I think John Cena is probably a very nice guy but that's never made me give two shits about him as a wrestler.

I'd love for him to come back, but it's not like he can really do anything these days and even his guest appearances have been pretty lousy.
