Sonic handled Kirby just fine in 2010, so I'd say likely just Cloud and probably Sephiroth. With Sonic Mania, he actually has a good game for "what has this character done for me lately?," which isn't always the case with Sonic so now might not be the best the time to expect a sudden collapse. And I dunno if Genesis stuff really benefits from the SNES nostalgia wave we saw in 2015, but it probably doesn't hurt.

Unless even 2013 Round 1 was a big fluke, Vincent's chances here look dead. Sonic easily beat Tifa in 2005 and it'd be really weird if she managed to turn around a 56-44 loss despite FFVII crumbling around her, although if Samus/Tifa 2013 was her normal strength it's plausible. Didn't think much of FFVIII's 2015 performance either and Vivi > Squall at least leaves left big question marks around Squall. At least in 1-on-1, Auron's probably never had the juice to take Sonic. Who even knows on Vivi. Really, barring some awful fourway performances, an FF near-elite taking down Sonic has always been kind of dicey; if you wanna see it, better hope they show up in some KHIII trailers or something.

He might not. Sub-Zero almost never gets a good seed, so he's likely to get matched up with strong characters. He's gotten lucky to get matched up against overseeded characters like Master Chief, Tidus, and Garrus in the past though.

I know jack shit about contests and I led the last guru for longer than anyone else (though I dropped in the end).

The trick is to read everything the leons and lusters say and then pick the right upsets to differentiate from them.

nah I'll never win because I pick my favorites whenever I feel like they have a chance to win and it never pans out

I even tried to go against my instincts last contest and picked Pokemon R/B/Y to get to the finals over all the Mario games, and then friggin' Undertale happened.
